How often should I do a protein treatment?

I've been natural for about 2.5 years and I have never done a protein treatment. I have read about the protein/moisture balance and different types of hair masks. But I've never really gotten to do a real protein treatment. My hair feels okay. It's strong, not much breakage, bouncy, shiny, etc. But I keep reading about protein treatments and idk if I'm missing something. Should I do them, if my hair is okay already? Or should I continue my normal routine?

*side note: I'm not saying that I don't deep condition. I do that each time I wash my hair. I've just never intentionally done a protein treatment.*

If your hair feels OK, I would say there is no need to try a protein treatment. You are probably getting enough protein from your regular products. I think that people who need true protein treatments usually have damaged hair or are having some big problems with breakage.
