Help! Why is my hair growing longer in the front and shorter in the back?

How do i prevent this without constantly cutting my hair? I have type 3b and 3c hair the curls in the front or more big and loose while the curls in the back are much tighter. i don’t straighten my hair a lot at all but i do where my hair in a high sleek bun a lot. I noticed my hair was growing longer in the front than the back around 2 years ago it just looked like a weird curly bob, i got a deva cut and told her that i wanted my hair to be all even, even if a lot of length was coming off and i told her the problem i had, she told me i would just have to get trims but i really wanted to grow my hair out, a few months later i went back to get a deva cut because my hair was growing the same way but i told her i didn’t want to lose much length, it’s been a little over a year since then and my hair is still growing the same but i don’t want to get it cut because it’s growing so long. any tips on what i should do?

Hi @delaniejada : Welcome to nc.com. That is a little unusual. But since it isn't that your hair is actually growing at different lengths, but rather the curl patterns are different, making it look like the actual length is different, have you tried an inverted bob hair cut? Since your goal is length, this might help you go longer between haircuts, without your hair looking like it was cut wrong.. (The side view in the pictures looks like that is what you actually have).

I guess the other way to deal with it is to use a different styling technique on the tigher curl part to try to loosen/stretch the curl. Not sure if this would be sufficient to even it out though.

I used to have similar problem, but then I noticed that the hair in the back are more dry and very damaged. I tried to pay special attention on that area while applying products (I was kinda skipping it before), cut off the split ends and switched to satin pillowcase, and after a while it got a lot better. Maybe it's your case as well

I agree with the inverted bob suggestion. A little shaping and it would look like you have a really cool, fashion forward cut. Plus, it wouldn't hurt to talk to a curly hair trained specialist, they may have other suggestions for you.

I go through this too!! I've also noticed that my hair on the right side of my head grows faster!! My hair dresser over the years has noticed this too and it surprised her too. I don't have any breakage or anything going on but I have been told that hair growth like this is normal.

I use a silk/satin pillow case and regular scalp massages with JBCO get rid of any split ends when I see them and just even out the side that gets a longer.
    3b but with a mix of 3a/3c
    Fine/med texture
    Normal/low porosity
