What is my hair type?

I think there are about 2-3 patterns jumbled in that mess. The back is the hardest to figure out.

    I'm going to guess 3c.
--I'm located in Western PA.   --I found NC in late 2004, CG since February 2005, joined the forums in May 2005, started going grey in late 2005.   --My hair is 3B with some 3A, currently at mid back length when dry,  texture-medium/fine, porosity-top is low, middle is medium, ends are porous, elasticity-normal.   --My long time favorite products are Suave & VO5 conditioners, LA Looks Sport Gel, coconut oil, honey, vinegar.

If you really want to start taking care of your hair, it is more important to identify your hair properties (hair width, porosity, density). Curl pattern will not help you, and might change as you actually start making the effort to take care of your hair, and use the appropriate products and techniques. You should learn more about this in the newbie threads.

@Bomega I am currently doing all of the above.

So far I've found out my hair is a mix of fine/medium/coarse strands. I did the float or sink test with 3 different strands, they floated for two days. So I figured it has low porosity but I'm not sure anymore.

I would say the front and the back of my hair has low density and the middle crown area has medium density.

The front and back hold moisture pretty well with a regular conditioner but my crown starts to lose its curl, dry and frizz up.

I would like to try deep conditioning with heat but haven't started as yet.

Would you be as kind to direct me to the newbie forum please. I think that's a great start.

    Thanks.

Certainly. It is the one labeled "Information for Newbies" on the main curltalk page - the second one down from the top.
