List of issues/bugs/etc from the last few months that I want to revisit.

jeepcurlygurljeepcurlygurl Posts: 20,684Registered Users, Curl Ambassador Curl Virtuoso
Just to keep them in the forefront for the techies.

RE: the buttons along the bottom of posts (Quote, Agree, Like, etc). Could they possibly be made bigger? Even tho I am on NC with a laptop instead of a phone and I also increase the font size on most websites, these buttons are super small. I don't know how people can even click on them on their phones.

RE: The white and grey delineations. If the grey spaces (along the side and on the topics we have read) could be darkened a bit, it would be much easier to find the topics we haven't read yet and much easier on the eyes since there is so much white space.
And RE: All that white space. The white space isn't new, it was added with the change in 2014 and my eyes have never adapted to it.  I know this isn't the only site do go with all the white. I come across lots of others that do that now also. Most people my age do not like it so I think all the studies were probably done with younger people in mind. : /

RE: The Read/Unread  topic issue. It's still very hard to tell what we have and haven't read.

RE: editing my profile  When I click Edit My Account, I get a 404 Error message. When I click View My Public Profile, I get a Page Not Found message. But if I click on my name in a post it goes to my Activity page that shows my join date, badges, etc.  But still no way to edit my profile, change my photo, change my signature, etc.

RE: Profile pics, avatars. At one point I was able to upload a new avatar but it only showed on my profile page, not as my avatar. At some point that new pic disappeared from my profile page and I am now unable to upload any new pic.

RE: Profile pages. When you click on someone's name you go to their profile page and it is like our own personal profile pages, where we can change and edit things. I consider that a private page and don't think that is what our public profile page should be. I think when we click on a person's name we should go to a page that just has their info they choose to show, a button to pm them, and a button to see all their posts, nothing more. That's how it used to be.
It was nice when we could do all this from a drop down menu when you clicked on a name.

RE: Posts still don't show their date and time which was very useful.

RE: Links and photos from older threads (before the re-do). I'm guessing many of them they won't ever work or show up again. : (

RE: Subscriptions/Bookmarks. I know I've already been told it's no longer possible, but it's still annoying that we are not automatically subscribed/bookmarked to the pages we post on. I rarely remember to look for the icon to click and then I have a hard time finding threads I'm interested in.

@jeepcurlygurl -- i agree with all you listed.   i complained to gretchen a week or so ago, about the very very very tiny size of the reaction icons -- both to click on and for the person to notice someone reacted.
she told the techs and it will be looked at, but she said they have other things to deal with first.  so it might be a while.

Oh yes, @rbb, this list was originally from 3 months ago. I went through it and deleted the 2 or 3 things that had been fixed or answered. None of it is the end of the world but some of these (like the tiny icons) would just be so much better for the users here that I don't want them to get lost in the shuffle.  Thanks for also reminding them.

    The profile pic issue -
1st pic is when I click my name at top right on the home page, View Public Profile.
2nd pic is when I click the gear icon, Preferences, Profile.
3rd pic is when I click anyone's name above their avatar (the 1st pic is what always used to show up and might be showing up for some people but not for me).

Bumping. It's been about 4 months since the re-do and the list of 10 issues I originally posted is still the same. The last 2 on the list I was told can't be fixed so let's just say there are still 8 issues that are important to me (maybe not to others!) that I wish could be fixed/changed.

I'll revisit. The techs are busy with other stuff, I'm told, but I'll keep at it. They just uploaded a fix for avatars that some people were having. Now we have the sideways avatars that I'm trying to get resolution on.

Nothing has changed at all for any of those issues, at least for me. No matter what computer/web browser I use, no matter how I logout/login, etc.

I just made a slight change on your account. Will you see if you can do this stuff now?

When I click Edit My Account, I get a 404 Error message. When I click View My Public Profile, I get a Page Not Found message.

@Gretchen When I clicked Edit My Account, I still got the error message. When I clicked View My Profile it sent me to a login page, even tho I was already logged in,  and then to my profile page.

So there is definitely something haywire with your account specifically.
Just to confirm, you are hitting the "edit my account" here, right?

I was trying out the Edit page and view public profile page to see if they worked for me.  I'm no longer getting errors.  But I can't seem to make any changes.  I fill out the edit forms and click save and then...

Problem 1:  No changes have been made, or some wonky changes have been made.  My birthday year is now 2018, and it won't accept that I'm not in the United States.

Problem 2:  On the editing page, after hitting the save button, I'm left on the exact same page except for there's a "changes saved" notice, and NO WHERE else to go.  No buttons, no home button, no community button, nothing.  So I have to manually type in the URL that I want.

And I still can't change my Avatar.  I don't really understand how different accounts can be affected in different ways since the re-do. Or why it takes so long to fix things.  This happened the last time and nothing got fixed for 3+ years!
But I'm more positive about this time. You can do it!!!   haha.

    does this link work?  https://www.naturallycurly.com/frizz-forecast/get-weather?_token=jqKqsVi9ZLxYOLDB0ikyPPu95OUTczx3sOfj3evt&type=current&hairType=3a&location=

i find the interpretation of dew levels still not accurate.  and, instead of giving me the temp/dews for my specific zip, it does a genral temp/dew point for the entire county -- somewhat different, but i use it as a "ball park" and reach my own conclusions on the dew point levels.

@jeepcurlygurl Will you take screen grab of what you mean here:

I'm guessing I'm not going to get anywhere on this because it's a design consistency thing, but let  me see.

And I'm almost certain I will get nowhere here:
And RE: All that white space. The white space isn't new, it was added with the change in 2014 and my eyes have never adapted to it.  I know this isn't the only site do go with all the white. @Gretchen ; This. The grey and white areas are barely imperceptible and the bolded and unbolded aren't much better. And all that white!! It's just all hard on the eyes.  And as others have said, we waste a lot of time trying to figure out which categories we have read or not.
Honest, I know it won't be changed because I'm betting most of the IT members have eyes that are decades younger than mine so they don't even get what I and others are talking about. But I continue to whine about it on occasion. : )

@Guide 65   It doesn't make sense that this forum looks and acts differently for everyone. I've belonged to many forums for many years and have never seen this issue anywhere else. I don't know what happened when they did that horrible remake here 4 years ago but it really messed things up then and has left some bugs that seem very difficult to fix.

@jeepcurlygurl, what are you using to access this site?  I'm on a PC with windows 10, using Firefox (latest update).  Different browsers, different devices, they all effect websites differently from my understanding.  Most web designers ask what you're using when you report a bug.

i agree 100%!  don't even know why they changed the format.  not only was it working, but it had many times over the traffic on it than this does now.

Ok, so this is poor UI. I've put a ticket in. I think FF only works in the US, and if this is indeed the case, we should certainly say so. Also, I think (in the US), you have to enter a zip code, and so it shouldn't say "Search by location"; it should say search by ZIP.

I use 4 different laptops, 3 browsers, 2 different windows versions on a regular basis. They all work the same here for me. I do not use a phone to access NC ever.
--I'm located in Western PA.   --I found NC in late 2004, CG since February 2005, joined the forums in May 2005, started going grey in late 2005.   --My hair is 3B with some 3A, currently at mid back length when dry,  texture-medium/fine, porosity-top is low, middle is medium, ends are porous, elasticity-normal.   --My long time favorite products are Suave & VO5 conditioners, LA Looks Sport Gel, coconut oil, honey, vinegar.
