Who cannot change their avatar?

GretchenGretchen AdministratorPosts: 10,150Administrators, Moderators Administrator
I've got a Smart Guy dedicated to helping me figure this out. If you have been unable to get your avatar to update on CurlTalk, please check into this thread. For example, I cannot, and I know Rouquinne cannot. Who else?
We're trying to figure out why some of you can change your avatar (profile pix) just fine, and others cannot.

Thanks, Curlies!

Welp, I lied because now when I tried to load a new pic again I get an error message and no profile picture, old or new, shows up on my profile page.

I get a 404 error page when I try to go into the "change profile picture" page.

Also still cannot use any of the links under my username.

@Jeepcurlygurl and @TKSweeney please try this:

Log out of NC completely. Go to home page of NC.com, and log back in. Then come over to CurlTalk and see what your avatar looks like. If it's not what you want, click on your user name in upper right corner, then "Edit my profile".
Then upload whatever avatar image you would like.
And then please let me know how it all goes!

Ok the pic I loaded a couple months ago is now showing up as my avatar. But now it won't even let me load a new pic at all (this isn't really the pic I wanted as my avatar. It was just to try the function when the re-do first happened last year). It shouldn't be this complicated, right!
And I've mentioned this elsewhere but this experiment does show my point that our public profile is not what people see when they click our name. It goes to our own editing page. That's not right.

Not really, I don't have another picture to use.  I was just trying it to see if I could.  Thanks for the directions though!

I clicked your username and got what looks like a public profile page (see attached screenshot - I only captured the top portion but didn't see any private info or ability to edit). Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that when a logged in user clicks their own username, they get the edit profile page. If not logged in or they click someone else's username, then they get a public profile page for that user.

1st pic is when I click my name at top right on the home page, View Public Profile.
2nd pic is when I click the gear icon, Preferences, Profile.
3rd pic is when I click anyone's name above their avatar  (the 1st pic is what always used to show up and might be showing up for some people (@Geek_Chic) but not for me.

When you click your name where? Above your avatar picture in CurlTalk or your name in the upper right corner, to the right of the NC logo?

Hi guys, I did what Gretchen said and it worked. At first I couldn’t log back in and had to reset my password. No biggie...once I got back in I followed the steps Gretchen specified. At first the picture didn’t change but once I pressed the save button the picture changed. Yay!! Thank you Gretchen!
