What conditioner actually worked to make your coarse hair soft?

ttoosdayttoosday Posts: 509Registered Users Curl Connoisseur
I'm looking for a conditioner that is ridiculously moisturizing or softening. It's gonna have to be on the level of extreme, out of this world, gives people moisture overload moisturization or softenization. Has anyone with coarse hair seen a product that achieves this? I've only ever had one product do a miracle and it was a mousse that got discontinued. And other than that, silicones are the only other thing that's softened my hair. I'm looking for extreme moisturization to see if that provides softness. Thanks.

Have you tried deep treatments?  Deep treatments left in for a long time?  Deep treatments with heat?  DT used as an every day conditioner?  Maybe an oil pre-poo?

Do protein treatments make your hair harder or softer?

I know you've been dealing with this for a long time, so you may have already tried these.  Hopefully someone else can come up with better suggestions for you.

Well I don't deep treat like I should. Two reasons- I just don't have time to wash/rinse my hair twice, I barely can devote time and patience to washing and styling once, on wash days. Also historically, deep txs never did anything, so I couldn't justify the time spent doing them. I got a hothead for Christmas so I did a 20 min tx with shea moisture strengthen n grow jbco deep tx with protein and it did absolutely nothing.
I use a range of conditioners in the shower and let them sit for a few mins and rinse before using a leave in, and I'm still dry dry dry. Or rough rough rough is a better description.

Yeah, I hate doing DT because of the double shower thing, and the time it takes.  I tried one of the SM ones, but it didn't do anything for me.  But the Deva Curl one works, and so does Briogeo.  If you have a Sephora near you, you can get a trial size tub of Briogeo to try out.

Have you tried using oils?  I don't like them, but my hair is different than yours.  They're supposed to add softness and flexibility to the hair.  Here's a good article about it -

I was experimenting with some new products from the Coconut Restore line last week and one night I put their coconut oil in my hair at night, in the morning I used the conditioner and gelee. It was all SUPER moisturizing and made my hair soft, which I actually don't like for myself but it might be what you are looking for!

Ive tried at least 10 different oils, by themselves, did nothing it seems. All the different products that contain all different oils...nothing seems to stand out. I'm considering using some different brands than I've tried in the past but I expect disappointment.

I havent tried any of the curl junkie products. Do they contain protein? Im very coarse, so I try to limit the protein that I get.

Deep fix does but cj curl rehab does not.  Another great deep conditioner.

I second the idea of Curl Junkie's Curl Rehab to soften your hair, and here's a way to really get the full effect.  Put a towel on your pillow and dampen your hair (you can do this any way - just using your hands with some water or a spray bottle) and slather on Curl Rehab.  And I do mean slather on!  2-3 palm fulls at least depending on the length of your hair.  It should look like your hair is coated in mayonnaise. Then sleep that way.  Next morning  wash with a gentle non-sulfate shampoo and voila!  I predict soft, silky hair.  It's messy but it works!  You won't need to do this that often, but it's a way to start on your road to happy hair.  I hope you have success with this method.
    2/c Coarse hair med. density.
    Highly porous. Color over grey.
I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....

Hi!  I feel your pain!  I have very coarse, dry, high porosity hair.  I am only 2 months into CGM and honestly, its a bit of a nightmare  :).  I have to deep moisturize with my hot head every time I wash my hair (usually twice a week).   Yes, its a pain but I don't have a choice, lol.  One thing that makes it easier, is I have a handheld shower head so I don't have to get back into the shower.  I use the LECG method and it has taken me this long to even find a half decent cocktail of products.  Oils are also very important.   I add a couple of tablespoons of olive oil and a tablespoon of honey to my deep conditioners that don't work very well - makes a huge difference. Good luck!
