How often is regularly?

So obviously I have low porosity hair and I recently started using sulfates again simply as a way to deal with buildup as I saw an article here suggesting that they're not always bad. In my experience, sulfate free Is great but it doesn't always shift what needs shifting. Anyway, I was using those because I had also recently started using Aunt Jackie's flaxseed gel and while I love it, it seemed like it was leading to product buildup. My most recent wash, I tentatively tried using just my sulphate free shampoo and also used the thicker conditioner that I usually just use for detangling as a leave in and my hair seemed to love it. It's still dry looking and slightly frizzy but I'm getting excellent curl definition so clearly the moisture is good. Oddly the other one has the first two same ingredients but it leaves my hair feeling sticky as it dries.

Contextual rambling aside then, it's clear sulphate use is good for me at least occasionally, my question therefore (as we don't have a shower and our boiler is currently broken so baths take an age to run) how often should I clarify as obviously I want to be able to get on without the hassle of rewashing my hair etc. Thanks. :)

I think it depends on the hair. I suggest trying to see what works out for you. See how long your hair is in good condition without buildup. Maybe it can last for a week, 3 weeks, or maybe even more!

Personally, I tend to wash my hair 3-4 times a week due to pollution and dirt. It makes my fine hair get limp a lot faster if I don't wash it regularly. And yes, I do use sulfates in my shampoo and a little silicone in my conditioner. I'm going to buy a new shampoo with less sulfates though once this current one runs out. For me, the silicones and sulfates work just fine - they don't harm my hair. My hair is still very, very healthy since I care for it. So experiment and see what your hair loves!

@StraightPassing Ah, also, if you experience some dryness with washing hair often (with or without sulfates), then I recommend pre pooing with oil, if you haven't done that already :). Personally, I always pre poo before I shampoo because the amount of sulfates in my shampoo is a lot. It boosts shine + moisture and decreases dryness.

Thanks for that, that's really helpful. :) I'm going to have to see. We live in the East of England which is a very hard water area. Though my hair was great yesterday, today it's not gritty but it definitely feels frizzy even if doesn't look it. Just did the lather test with a glass and found out that though my shampoo does contain EDTA which is good, the glass rewashed does look kind of cloudy. I think therefore I'm going to need to use the shampoo possibly each wash, or at least look for a sulphate free with EDTA if possible. That being said, I did find mixing sulphate free and the EDTA shampoo was less harsh so may try that. :)

A a follow up, the great thing is I just discovered that the thing  I need to combat hard water on my hair is a chelating agent and both my sulfate shampoo and sulfate free shampoo contain one, so now all I need to do is experiment with how often I need to clarify but I don't actually need to change my shampoo. :)
