Dandruff and Curls

I've always had dandruff, but I also have curly hair, and whenever I use dandruff shampoo, it dries my hair out and makes my curls frizzy. Is there a brand of dandruff shampoo made for curly hair, or do I just have to live with dandruff and accept it as part of having curly hair?

I can't help much since I don't use dandruff shampoo (or any shampoo for that matter). Back when I used shampoo, I would get dandruff often in the winter, less so in the summer. Since I went CG I haven't had dandruff at all (unless I used too much gel).

I'm fairly new at this, but what is CG? I'm not sure I've tried that

It's the Curly Girl method. Just search it here and you will get tons of info. There are also 2 books. Basically, it's just giving up shampoo and washing your hair with conditioners that don't have sulfate, silicones, etc which dry out or weigh down hair. But you'll want to do some reading up on it to find a routine that suits you and your hair.  For me tho, it immediately got rid of dandruff and other issues. I haven't used shampoo in about 15 years.

    Hi, CC~

I have a similar issue. There's not much humidity where I live and I get dry, itchy scalp/dandruff a lot. I've found that occasionally using Nizoral works well. But the game changer for me was a scalp brush. I use it every time I wash my hair (no matter the type of shampoo) and it's helped A LOT. I was worried it might create knots and tangles, but that hasn't been an issue.

I lather up, use the brush, rinse out, and then follow up with a conditioner.

I've found that I only need the Nizoral maybe every 6 weeks or 2 months or so. :)

    Hope that helps!

I agree with the ladies.... I think if you start treating your scalp correctly, you won't suffer from the dandruff.
