Keratin treatments for natural african american hair??? Thoughts?

Hi i'm new to the group. I've been natural for a while now and i'm getting tired of the same thing. My hair cannot handle relaxers, so i wanted to try a keratin treatment. But i'm afraid of potential damage and i want to be able to retain my length. My hair texture is between a 3c and 4a.

I've seen plenty of articles of keratin treatments damaging non african american hair textures, so i don't know how it would work for us. I've also seen that plenty of women who are used to relaxers swear by keratin. So i'm literally stuck in the middle. I'm clueless.

So can you please share your opinions on this.
-does it cause breakage and damage
-did it work for you/ why or why not
- any tips on keeping your hair healthy once you have had one?
- were you still able to grow your hair to be really long after?

Thank you all in advance.
