My hair texture...

Hi ladies! I have a question...

So I was just watching a naturalista on YouTube with 4b hair (my same hair texture) and she brung up an interesting point. She said that she heard from a colleague that when you you apply conditioner in your hair, the texture you see is your natural texture. Getting to my point, When I apply conditioner to my hair, my hair seems to be maybe a little looser than 4b. I know a factor that can contribute to that is the fact that it’s weighed down by the conditioner, but how is it my texture if my hair seems to be verryyyy very thick and like 4c? I just don’t understand how to achieve the texture that’s supposed to be my real texture.. I just recently used “Back castor oil and Flax Seed Eco Styler Gel” in my hair and as I was applying it, my coils seemed to weigh down a bit by now it’s just puffy like it was before with some coils here and there.

I have never heard this and do not understand it. As you point out, when the hair has conditioner in it, and especially when it is soaked with water, it is going to exhibit looser curl than when it is dry. In fact, many naturals have problems with shrinkage when the hair dries, so clearly they have a looser texture when their hair is wet than when it is dry. I would not worry about that piece of information and would continue working with what you know from experience is your true texture.

Second what Therese1 said. If you're literally stretching something out because you added weight to it, that doesn't mean that is it's true shape. There is nothing wrong with wanting a different look for your hair however.

If you want looser looks for your hair then I suggest trying a twist out. I have multiple textures in my hair and if I want these sections to blend more or look longer (the hair in front is tighter and it makes the overall shape of my hair look weird right now) then I put some in a twists overnight and then take them out in the morning. They hold for multiple days for me. I also read that if you want to accentuate your curl's you can wash it with bentonite clay. You can find stuff like that on Amazon.
3B with a little 3C mixed in. My hair's porosity is on the low, low. Fine, medium density. Finally reached shoulder length!

Hi, SummerSunshine. :) I think I understand what you are trying to say...

Some people swear by wetting the hair and adding condition to it shows your true curl pattern. This is not true! Do not listen to everything a youtuber says. Research some things for yourself.

This being said, when I wet my hair and add conditioner my curls are elongated as well as stringy looking, (straight looking like a type 2B) but once I add my products and it dries, it is a 3C.

My point is... All hair types (patterns) elongate when it is wet. It is best to observe your curls (or pattern) when it is dry (after you add your products). Also, I have read/heard others say that the products make your curls, this is not true either!! Yet, the products enhance your natural curls (or coils). I hope this info helps. :)
