Naturally Curly Hair Routine & Regimen 101 for Newly Naturals

in Hair Type 4
Greetings,
Curlies. I noticed that most of the OG (old school) naturally curlies in this thread does not respond to newly naturals. Well, not quite often. Especially, those whom have type 4 or mixed 3c/4a patterns, unless it is from another hair pattern individuals (e.g. 2-3c hair types). In any case, I see no problems with any person with a different hair pattern trying to help. I guess there are not many newly natural curlies (or old naturally curlies) that are not making any new threads (or posting on a regular) that may help bring encouragement while others are at the beginning of their journey, in it or transitioning? Therefore, I felt the liberty to post images and information to help those who are confused on how to build a regimen or routine for themselves. Or, what products to use? For starters, If you do not know your porosity, density, texture & width as well as elasticity. Please follow up on this thread.

Low:
Incorporate ingredients that are of a more alkaline nature. Adding a little bentonite clay (pH of 8.3) to you conditioner is a great trick.
Applying heat while deep conditioning is extremely helpful. Tools such as heat caps or steamers are great ways to help lift the cuticle and better infuse moisture into the hair.
When applying product, make sure the hair is wet or damp, then seal in the moisture with butter or oil.
Medium:
Healthy ingredients, regular deep conditions, moisturizing, and little to no heat will help keep normal porosity hair at it’s best.
High:
Use thick butters and products with oils because they can serve as a protective layer and help seal the cuticle. Henna and Protein Treatments are great for temporarily filling the gaps or holes in highly porous hair. Apple Cider Vinegar rinses are also helpful in closing the cuticle. Minimize and (or) abstain from using heat and chemical processes if you can.
INTRO OF WHAT IS HAIR DENSITY?
The density of your hair is simply how thin or thick it is as a whole by counting the number of hair follicles, or the number of hairs, in that 1-inch section. In which, will be difficult to do. A simple way to test your hair is using your vision and touch. You can smooth out your hair as much as possible using a comb or your fingers, then tie hair in a ponytail (if you can). Measure the circumference of your ponytail. Or...
** You can determine your curl density, look at your dry hair hung loose in its natural shape, from different angles and up close. If your scalp is easily visible, you have low curl density. If your scalp is somewhat visible, you have medium curl density. And if your scalp is barely visible, you have high hair density.
Low-density hair :will be less than two inches.
Medium-density:hair will be two to three inches.
High-density :thick hair will be four or more inches.
Once you’ve determined your hair porosity and hair density, you can make better decisions as to how to care for your curls.

Like the image says, "Because Your Curls Are More Than A Number". It is very important to know your porosity, density & width. Knowing your pattern isn't very important!! This being said, it is nothing wrong with wanting to know...
What is hair width & density?
Width is not how the hair feels, but describes the thickness of each individual strand of hair. The comparison is typically to a piece of thread. If your hair is fine, it's thinner than the thread, medium hair is usually the same width and thick or coarse strands are thicker than the piece of thread.
Density Hair width measures the width of an individual strands of hair. Also how closely those strands are packed together on your head. Your hair's density can also be affected by your hair texture, porosity and width. Knowing your hair density, along with your porosity, width and curl pattern will help you choose the right products, styles and cuts to maintain the volume of your hair.
** You can determine your curl density, look at your dry hair hung loose in its natural shape, from different angles and up close. If your scalp is easily visible, you have low curl density. If your scalp is somewhat visible, you have medium curl density. And if your scalp is barely visible, you have high hair density.

Co-washing is short for “conditioner-only washing.” It means skipping shampoo and relying solely on conditioner, whether you're a daily or a weekly washer. The result is something between squeaky-clean and second-day hair—that is, smoother, softer, and easier to manage.
Pre-Pooing Is a treatment done BEFORE shampooing your hair. pre-pooing helps aid against a shampoos tendency to strip your hair of its natural oils and moisture. Most apply their oil of choice, DIY conditioners, (DIY=Do It Yourself) regular conditioners and honey as well as hair masks.
Five reasons you should pre-poo?
https://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/kinky-hair-type-4a/5-reasons-you-should-pre-poo/
Benefits of Co-washing:
The Benefits Of Co-Washing Natural Hair - Happily Ever Natural
Co-washing isn't for everyone, but it wouldn't hurt to try it--just to see if your hair likes it!
Notice: If you have eczema, psoriasis, dandruff or any other scalp condition, then co-washing can be a big waste of your time. You can co-wash if you just want to refresh your hair and boost the moisture level, but know that it will not be effective at cleaning your scalp.

Seriously. Color-treated hair needs extra TLC, so a deep conditioner treatment is a must (weekly). Also, invest in a small spray bottle, then add some water, leave in conditioner, and oil. Spritz it in your hair every day, or whenever you feel like your hair needs added moisture. In addition, learn to do the L.O.C. & L.C.O. Methods. See which one is best for you...

The torsion of kinky hair is basically the strand twisting around itself. The simplest analogy would be the wringing of a cloth where you turn one side clockwise and the other anticlockwise.
Now kinky hair can be curly and have the same spiral turns in addition to the torsion twist. This creates the dominant type of hair seen among people of African origin - the kinky curly hair. Going by the first analogy on a large scale think of it like wringing a sheet and then winding it around a large rod to form the curl.

Definition of a coil: a series of connected spirals or concentric rings formed by gathering or winding: a coil of rope; long coils of hair.
Definition of curl: : to form (as the hair) into coils or ringlets
**Kinky and coily are sometimes used interchangeably and are indicative of a tiny curl. All kinky & coily hair is curly, but not all curly hair is kinky& coily.
