A Deva UD gel question - kind of.

Hi, Curlfriends. I have been using the Deva Ultra Defining gel. I have to say I love how it feels on my hair - like no product at all - and defines my curls well. However, by the end of the day, I have soft fuzzy curls. Am already useing the Deva foam on my crown for extra lift and volume; and also I use a hair spray. The Deva chat suggested I get Set it Free, but reviews on line complain that that product makes their hair not feel good, to heavy, greasy, etc. I am looking for comments about Set it Free or suggestions from other Deva UD gel users.

I think I still a bottle of set it free in my cabinet. I didn't like it on my hair. There were days I had good results with it and then days my hair just went limp and greasy looking. My results were never consistent. I had "better" results if i sprayed it on dry hair to refresh. But even that didn't work well all the time. I have very fine hair and I can get away with all the deva gels pretty much. I really like the LD one the best for my hair. I just finished up my UD gel and it was ok but I didn't get good second day hair with it.

2nd day hair is not an issue for me. But greasy hair is. I guess I wont be rushing out and getting that product.

I used Set it Free once, and was so skeeved by the greasy results that I poured the rest down the drain.

Are you using any of the deva low poos?

No I am not. I use various SheaMoisture shampoos.

I also hate Set-it-Free. Yuch - bought it once and threw it out.

    Highly porous. Color over grey.
I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....

years ago, up til 2009 when deva changed most of their formulas, i loved set it free. i could ALWAYS count on it to keep curls defined and frizz-free.

then they changed almost, or all, the formulas, and my hair hates the set it free formula now. no matter how much i used, nothing happened except my hair was overloaded with product that did nothing but weigh my hair down.

my hair hated all the products and i stopped using deva and am so happy as i found curl junkie, FAR superior to what deva was, and my hair is happy. :thumright:

I don't like any of the low or no poos from Deva. Too heavy and leaves my hair droopy and heavy. I take back my rave review on the light defining gel. I went to get my hair cut by a deva stylist (best cut ever from her - a new find) and she used the ultra defining gel. My hair turned out great. After a couple of days, I washed my hair and used my LDG and not so happy with the results. Next day I wet my hair down and used the UDG and wow, great hair day. So, I'm going to Ulta to exchange the light for the ultra. The only other thing she used in my hair which I really liked was the deva hair spray. I bought that and have used it twice and really like it.

I bought a tube of B'Leave in and was underwhelmed with it. I am returning it. I have had great hair the last few days with SM Black Castor oil shampoo; Giovanni tea tree conditioner; Sweet Curls elixir's FSG coarse hair formula; and LALSG.

I tried the B'leave in by itself and really didn't like it.
However, I have been mixing a small amount of B'Leave-in with UDG and have had great results. It gives me more volume and good definition.
This really suprised me with my uber- fine wavy hair.
Gel gives me much better 2nd day hair rather than mousse, even though mousse gives me more volume. And much more defined curls.(or waves rather). Almost brings me to a 2b/c. The Combo of UDG and the B'Leavein give me a bit more volume. I need the harder hold of the UDG mostly in winter or drier climates.
I really like the combo of UDG and the B'Leave in mixed together, rather than applying separately. I have found that for me that is key.
I mix them together and put them in my wet(but not soaking wet) hair.
I've never tried the Deva foam, I'd like to but I'm on a budget.
I'm looking for more curl, body, volume, and shine-a miracle really.
    Poos" Nioxin, Devacurl, Jessicurl

Rinse out: VO5 Kiwi Lime, Mane and Tail,Too Shea
Mousse: Oscar Blandi Hair Life, Ouidad Playcurl
