Clarifying: I'm a believer! What are your favorites?

A couple days ago I clarified with VO5 Normal Balancing shampoo, a sulfate shampoo, then followed with a deep condition with my regular conditioner. That day I had so much volume and body, and today (back to my regular shampoo/condish) my hair is so nice now!

One issue: my scalp is a little itchy. It's not that bad - something I can live with for now, but I think the scent is slightly irritating (although it could be something else in the ingredients list.) I have to say, at $0.94, a little ichiness is worth it, but when my cash flow improves, I think I would like to find something non-irritating.

So, what are some of your favorite clarifiers? For that matter, what are some of your favorite deep conditioners?

My favorite clarifiers are Kinky-Curly Come Clean and Bumble and Bumble Sunday shampoo. I tried a cheap clarifying shampoo from Target, but it made my whole body itch, and the scent was overwhelming and hung around. It actually made me ill. So I spent the dough on the Bb. Haven't regretted it.

For deep conditioning, I just use my regular conditioner (Intelligent Nutrients Harmonizing for summer, Curl Junkie Curl Assurance Smoothing Daily for winter). I used the Jessicurl Deep Conditioning Treatment the other day, and it was OK. I used it on hair that was suffering from protein overload, so I couldn't really get a good read on how it would do on my "normal" hair. I'd have to try it again before commenting.
Low poo: Intelligent Nutrients (IN) Harmonic; Oribe Cleansing Creme
    RO: IN Harmonic
LI: CJ Beauticurls; Jessicurl (JC) Gelebration Spray
DC: JC Deep Conditioning Treatment; Weleda Rosemary Conditioning Oil
Stylers: JC Confident Coils; IN Volumizing Spray; IN Perfect Hold Hairspray; John Masters Sea Mist; Bumble Bb. Gel; Kenra Firm-Hold Gel; Sevi Blue Yarrow Sea Salt Spray
    Low-porosity 2a/b baby-fine hair

Hi Therese does the B&B Sunday shampoo have a lot of stuff in it? I'm currently using Sally's Ion Clarifying shampoo and you mentioned in another thread that it had pretty strong ingredients. I'm looking for something similar with similar ingredients but not as strong. Thanks!

Hey Therese, Do you prefer the Bb. Sunday Shampoo over KCCC? I'm a little deterred by the cost.

Macher, the B&B Sunday poo doesn't have a lot of ingredients, but you were concerned about the herbal extracts in it (we had discussed it on your thread about clarifying). FWIW, I've never had a problem with it, and my hair is extremely protein sensitive. If you buy it at a salon, you will be able to return it if you don't like it.

Have you tried Kinky-Curly Come Clean? There is also what would probably be a good clarifying poo from Intelligent Nutrients: the PurePlenty exfoliating shampoo. This one looks like it would be very gentle but also clarify well. I may try it in the near future.

Bomega, I feel like I need both the Bb. and the KCCC in my arsenal. Depending on what I've used in my hair (I've been experimenting lately), one or the other works better. I think I find the KCCC more drying than the Bb. Technically, I think that the KCCC active ingredient (olefin sulfonate) is supposed to get rid of more stuff than the sulfates in the Bb. Can you buy a travel size of the Bb. poo at a salon? If you just use it every now and then for clarifying, the travel size should last you a very long time.

I'm very happy with the Bb. for a sulfate poo; I react strongly to the overly strong scents from drugstore shampoos, and I find the more natural scents from salon poos to be much more tolerable. I also have never had any problems with itching when using the Bb.

Thanks Therese. Yeah, the VO5 might need to go soon. Something to consider.

The more I look into it, the more I'm liking the Bb. Sunday shampoo for a periodic clarifier. In addition to SLS, it has EDTA, which I need for hard water build up. (This was the selling point to me when I was at Walmart for VO5 Normal over Neutrogena Anti-Residue.) I guess the KCCC has phytic acid, but I wonder if that is enough for my town's well water.
