Running fingers through curly hair?

NessyNessy Posts: 788Registered Users
I was a trade show yesterday that is geared towards women - so there are all kinds of vendors for women's health, beauty etc.

I went by the Elucence booth - the lady there stopped me and told me that I had nice hair, but asked me "can you run your fingers through your hair". I said no, and thought to myself who the hell runs their fingers through curly hair anyway (or straight for that matter). I told her I wasn't interested in the product.

So she then starts running her fingers through her co-worker's hair and says "look, can you do this? look how soft her hair is". I told her I use a great gel and I love it. She then says that I must get flakes - I told her no. She looked at me like I was lieing.

So she comes over and tries to run her fingers through my hair and proceeds to point out that it can't be done. I was so pissed off by this point, so I told her that curly hair isn't meant for "running fingers through" and left while she was in mid sentence. She was so damn pushy.

WTF? Who the heck is she to tell me that my hair is dry! Frankly, my hair was in MUCH better shape than hers and the other girl!

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but she really pissed me off!

I"m sure she thought she was using some big selling point but hello! That's the first thing they teach us early on is don't run your hands through your hair it messes it up and oh dont' touch your face it smears your makeup.

Freaks, I'd be mad someone touched my hair that I didn't know. Well in that way.

If it smells good put it in your hair, if it tastes good spit it out!

How rude of her to touch your hair! I would have listened to her side though, only because I must admit I don't like my crunchy hair :?

Ewww! How creepy for someone to just start putting their fingers in your hair!

I'd have done the same to her to see if she liked it.

I dunno, I'd like to know what the products were. I totally would have listened to her schpeel - I would LOVE to be able to run my fingers through my hair!

Looking at your photos, I must say that your hair is amazing. Also, being that curly, why would someone try to run her fingers through it, especially someone involved in selling hair care products who should know better.

That is insane. I lik my BF being able to glide his hands along the top of my hair -- but WTF is the point of running fingers thru your hair? That is definitely a straight hair thing to do, like flouncing off to make it swing Marsha Brady style. Just the thought of it cracks me up. My first impulse would've been to say. "No, I can't. But I bet you can run your fingers through your head...so much extra unused space in there 'n all."

    hey nesrine!

Sorry that lady was such a jerk. People piss me off when they think they know your hair better than you do. Her actions and words were uncalled for. Pshh..they were probably just jealous  Your hair is gorgeous !

I knew you guys would think the same thing I was :). I found it very odd for some stranger to do that. I may have stayed to listen, but as soon as she touched my hair without asking, that was it for me.

Definitely a straight hair thing to do. I remember being able to run my fingers through my hair when I was ironing the poor stuff, but now? If there is someone out there who can run their fingers through their curly hair, I'd love to hear what they do! If I even think about running my fingers through my curly hair, it goes *poof* and looses all its' curl.

I can run my fingers through my hair on days when it doesn't curl much, but I would flip out if a stranger tried to do it! I don't like people I don't know even standing too close... they better not put their grimy hands on me! :x

I can't run my fingers through my hair. Nonetheless, my hair is soft and it's not terribly damaged. It's not virgin hair, mind you, but it's not split or breaking, either. Still, though, I can't run my fingers through my hair.

Hair products' manufacturers want to make us think something is wrong with our hair because we can't run our fingers through it. That really makes no sense. When your hair curls and begins to wrap itself around other strands, it's going to tangle. I don't see how any product alone is going to stop that.

Well said! Plus, who wants to break up their curls by running their fingers through it? I don't. Nessy, they were probably just jealous of your hair and wanted to touch it! :)

GRRRRRRR. Yet another person assuming ur hair is messy/dry/unhealthy because it is curly. I envy ur gorgeous locks, and I can't believe that the woman was so degrading to actually presume u didn't like ur hair or something. If I ran into you, i would ask you what products you use because ur hair looks do shiny and well-defined

Anyway, I totally wouldn't of stopped and listened to her spiel. She didn't seem very knowledgeable on ur hairtype, and she has boundary issues apparently. :?

That lady is crazy and obviously doesn't know much about curly hair. My hair is fine, thin and for the most part stays tangle free, but I have no idea if I can run my fingers through it because I've never tried! Why would I? More importantly, why would anybody else?
