Hit - Proclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil Curl Refresher

I never had any luck with this brand but my hair loves castor oil so I decided to try it. It works awesome at rehydrating my hair especially at my roots which tend to get dry. I actually went to Sally to buy Jane Carter leave in which is my go to refresher but may be jumping ship if this continues to do this well.

Preliminary Hit- Mane Choice Biotin Gel

When I first put this on my hair I was skeptical. For one I used my leave in which is Tresemme and not theirs. The gel made my leave in suds up like I had washed my hair. I applied baobab oil. When it dried it was fine and actually fewer flakes than I've ever gotten with any gel including FSG. I saw that my shrinkage was way less tan usual and my definition was amazing. I got a lot of compliments. Today I took my hair out of a pineapple and spritzed it and fluffed it and it still looks amazing. The hold is not crunchy either. This gel is normally $11 but I paid $6. I think if it continues to do well I will repurchase it because the container is large.

Devacurl No poo: I tried cowashing when I first went curly and it was bad- limp, sticky, dirty looking hair. That was in high humidity, and when the dry weather started and my hair freaked out (crunchy and frizzy with straight bits) I decided to try the classic cleansing conditioner. Works great. I still shampoo regularly, but in between, this works great.

Devacurl curl cream: Again, I tried this curl cream in the summer, it was moisturizing, but way too heavy for my fine, thin hair. My curls are a bit limper than I like, but I bet nobody but me notices. I've got nice curl formation, nice bounce, nice hold, no crunch.

I know I am super late on this fad product but I finally re-tried Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle and it was an absolute hit. I used it once a long time ago and then left it in my closet. I used it last week and it was really moisturizing and helped me detangle a two week old twist out. It smelled amazing and it invigorated my scalp.

Jessicurl Confident Coils: A lightweight styler with medium hold. I love this because it does not weigh my hair down, and it gives it a little texture so it's not so flat.

Jessicurl Gelebration Spray: A flax seed product to help with curl formation. I've tried making my own flax seed gel, and it weighs my hair down. The Gelebration Spray is a lighter-weight formula. And I'll admit that I want to have a product in my cabinet that I can just pull out and use and not have to worry about making it. Plus, my hair is low porosity, and I hate putting cold homemade FSG on it.

Aveda Flax Seed Aloe Gel: Similar to the Jessicurl Confident Coils; a very lightweight gel. It seems a tad more moisturizing and gives a little less texture than the Jessicurl CC. At first I wasn't sure about this product, because it seemed to give me a lot of build-up. But then I discovered that I was getting build-up from all of my products simply because I wasn't washing my hair well enough. Now that I am taking extra care to wash my hair well with my low poo, I don't seem to have an issue with build-up and this product.

Jessicurl Awe Inspiraling Spray: A curl refresher. I have lots of problems with curl refreshers, because they just weigh my hair down and make it look greasy. This one didn't do that. But I do spritz with some water first to get my hair relatively remoisturized; then I put a few sprays of this on each side of my head and scrunch. I seem to get more volume when I add the Jessicurl Spray compared with when I use water alone.

    Miss:

Aveda Brilliant Retexturing Gel: This made my hair relatively straight for several days. I suspect it is the wheat protein in it; sometimes certain proteins make my hair straight. This went back to the salon.

I have to take back my assessment of the Aveda Flax Seed Aloe Gel at a hit. It is a miss! It is indeed causing build-up. I don't know if it's the polyquats or the supposedly water-soluble silicone that is the problem, but I need a sulfate to get it out.

I may have to rethink the Mane Choice gel.

This Korean eyebrow dye that at first didn't seem to work but which has now left my eyebrows a weird non-blonde shade.

Mane Choice Gel is no longer a hit. I found it only works for me on freshly shampooed hair. I shampoo once a week because of easy to get buildup. If I cowash and reapply it then it flakes badly and dries my hair out. It might work for people who have different hair properties than I do.

Camille Rose Ginger Rinse - HIT I have been using this for about a month now and absolutely love it. My hair is clean but not stripped. Feels like it's making my hair healthier.
