Zuri hair styles

in Hair Type 4
There was a show on Disney called Jessie that had a character named Zuri. If you don't know her I posted a photo. This character had 4 hair but almost never wore it in a protective style (braids or twist). Is this possible? Today daughter got a deva cut and was told to pineapple her hair and cover it with a bonnet. I'm imagining the tangles and knots that may result. I imagine if there are 2 hair days instead of 1 it maybe alright. Please inform me... Thanks!

I don't watch Disney and have never heard of the show but that looks like Skai Jackson. I've seen her on commercials and on that Twitter beef craziness. Anyway, I can tell her hair style is twistout. The notion that if you are type 4 then you have to pt to retain length is a generalization. I'm mostly 4 and I haven't worn braids for but a next day braidout since I big chopped in 08. And I don't leave twists in my hair for more than a few days. If I do my hair becomes dry. The only ps that works for me is a loose bun. Everyone's hair is different. I find that is I do certain things to prevent tangles then I don't get them too much. .

I do a kind of low pineapple and cover my hair. Then I spritz and fluff it in the morning. One thing that helps me it putting something a little heavier on the ends of my hair. Reduces ssk's.

For a lot of people the term protective styling means low manipulation and/or not exposing the ends of your hair. I think twists can be ps but not twistouts. I think the frequency at which I wash and twist my hair disqualifies me. But it's a matter of perspective.
I feel that ps is not necessary for everyone. For some people it may be but there is this idea that anyone type 4 must leave their hair alone for an extended time in braids, twists, and weaves. Being left alone is actually detrimental to my hair and why I have never and would never consider wearing sew in. My hair has to be made soaking wet every few days and lightly wet every day in between. Wearing my hair loose doesn't cause it to tangle but wearing my hair loose AND soaking wet causes more ssks so I use twists to get it dry. I don't really leave my hair in twists for an extended amount of time. Usually just overnight or until it dries. More than two days in twists causes my hair to become very dry because water can't get inside very well. BTW My hair is super dense.
On another note, I've noticed a lot of people think everyone who twist does it for the purposed of "creating" curls. Not so. My hair and a lot of other people's hair is curly regardless but twisting means fewer fairy knots. My hair looks pretty much the same whether I do a w and g or do a twistout except for the being more stretched the first day.
