Trimming own hair!! Please reply!

Okay, so I have heat damage and severe split ends. I chopped some off already but not all of it. So here are my questions:
1) if you can see through your hair, that is the split ends part??
2) if I twist my hair and the twist undos or looks frizzy as I go down the twist, is that a split end??

Please reply soon, as I am trimming not, possibly overtrimming???

A split end is just that. You look at the hair and can see where the one strand has separated into two. If this is further up then it's a mid shaft split. Sometimes ends can be damaged or raggedy but not necessarily split. Other than split ends, I also trim when my hair is in twist after freshly washed and moisturized hair. I use a little cream to deal ends and use my finger to curl the ends. When my ends will won't stay curled I trim.
Forget what hurt you, but never forget what it taught you.

when i take my twist out ( not 2 strands twist ) it is frizzy but my hair is healthy and it curls. If your hair does not curl after a twist out you can cut it off
