Does anyone use curl creams as deep conditioners? Why or why not?

I have a tub of Eden Body Works Pudding Souffle and Cantu Coconut Curling Cream. I wonder if I could use these as deep conditioners because I realized I only have one product that is really meant for deep conditioning, the SM Deep Treatment Mask. (The SM DTM has no cationic conditioning ingredients to help it bond, so I'm kind of on the fence about how i feel about that as a DC even tho it is touted as one of the best. It is mostly sealing emollients and shea butter.) I also have a couple pouches of Hask protein type conditioners. Other than that, I don't really have many varieties of deep conditioners.

In the interest of not going out to buy any more products that i have no room for, I wonder how these would work as a DC.

Does anyone use curling cream products as deep conditioners? Why or why not?

I've used them as part of L.O.C. treatment over night. On fesh washed hair, I use KCKT, a aloe vera, jojoba, and tea tree oil, water mix, and then Curl's Creme Brule over it. The cream seals in the oil.

My hair likes it and its a way to use up the curl cream.

No, I haven't but never thought to do so until now! I would encourage you to try it! Like you said why go out and buy something else? I would try using the cream as a DC first and if it doesn't work, go buy a DC. I've used a styling lotion as a prepoo before and it worked very well and I haven't bought a DC in months, I use regular RO conditioner. You never know until you try. If you decide to do it, please report your results back here. :).

It appears that the curl creams have pretty much the same, if not more, ingredients as a DC, with the exception that the curl creams tend to be less on the cationic ingredients side. Most DCs, and regular conditioners as well, tend to have the behentrimonium methosulfate, or some of the chlorides/bromides, or polyquat ingredients. But the SM Deep Treatment Mask has none of them, so I figure, whats the difference, then?!

I'm so glad you started this thread! As a method of curbing my product junkie ways, I have pledged that I'm not allowed to buy new products until I finish the ones I have. I have to accept the fact that Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk is too heavy to make a good leave in for my fine 2c/3a hair, so I was hoping to find a way to use it up as a deep conditioner.

Has anyone ever used the curl milk as a deep treatment? Since it has more oils/butters and less of the conditioning ingredients with slip, I am concerned about being able to rinse it out of my hair. So I think I'm going to mix a blob of it with my regular rinse out conditioner and see how that goes. If it doesn't rinse out after that, I can always switch that mixture to being a pre-poo mask on wet hair. I use Kinky Curly shampoo so I know it will wash out eventually.

1001waves- I totally get it, and I'm in the same boat. I have GOT to use up all these products. I bet I could go five years on everything I have right now.

I'd be interested to hear your results. I have two curl creams that I don't like and have them lined up to use for leg shaving atm! It would be nice to use them for something hair related instead.

Alright so I tried the two curl creams I listed as deep conditioning treatments and they did not really work. There's just something different about them, even though all the ingredients look pretty much the same.

These two curl creams, (Eden Body Works Pudding Souffle and Cantu Coconut Curling Cream), both of them, they didn't feel very slippery going on the freshly shampooed hair. They didn't do a thing to detangle. They were hard to rinse out thoroughly. And let my hair feeling dry through to the next wash. Perhaps it was the shea/mango butter.

I didn't try to add any other product in with either of them, like a tried and true condish like Tresseme or GVP or any oils or anything. It's possible a cocktail with another product might do a lot to help it.

I will just stick to deep conditioners that are meant for that purpose. But still, I am kinda baffled as to why one type of moisturizing product doesn't do anything like the other when their ingredients are so similar. I know formulation is important, so I guess it has alot more to do with it than I thought.

Thanks for reporting back. I've no idea of the ingredients of the two creams I have and perhaps I shan't bother to check now. Leg shaving it will be.
