Okra

Does okra gel contain proteins? The kind that make your hair less porous? My hair is just not drying with that stuff on.

I Boiled 3/4 c sliced okra with 1 tbsp Irish moss and 2 c water. When mostly cooled I strained it and added 1 tbsp each olive oil, honey and aloe Vera. I was hoping to use it as a leave in...

It has great slip, and squish, but I don't know whether it made my hair shiny or my curls bouncy because it just won't dry!

You have a lot of stuff in there. It might help to separate the ingredients so you can pinpoint what is what. Okra never seemed to do well with my hair (though my hair was different back then). Pulled out the curl and I think made it limp. I assume the oils, honey, and aloe vera are things you've used in the past. Oils and honey make my hair slower to dry.

I think I used too much 😂 Last night I put my hair in a pineapple, and this morning it was all crunchy. Looked great though. But I didn't like the texture, so I wet my hair and it was dripping slime 😆 I rinsed it until the water ran clear and styled it in the usual way - I'll give it another attempt next week 😃

Hi, I agree with Naturecat, it seems like a lot. Irish moss is a quite powerful gelling ingredient, in my gel recipes I never put more than 0,5 to 2 % of it depending on the texture I want (click here to go to a french site where if you scroll down you will see the different types of gels you can get with irish moss witch is called carrageenan here) . Also if you use mineral water with it you will get a gel that's more solid less liquidy than if you use purified water. Also 1 tbsp of honey looks like a lot for me. If you want to experiment with it my advice is to make a small batch of the okra + irish moss gel then add the other ingredients one by one a little bit at a time until you reach desired texture and effect.
In general with those types of gel a little bit goes a long way.
