NEW Frizz Ease/John Frieda Dream Curls

Yesterday while at the grocery store I saw that Dream Curls by Frizz Ease/John Frieda has new packaging AND new ingredients!

I did NOT see cyclomethicone in them & none of the cyclo-xane cones either! :D

I previously bought the old formula & packaging a few weeks ago, so I didn't buy a new bottle, so I don't have all the new ingredients. Sorry!

I just bought a John Frieda Frizz Ease product that was cone free too! It's called Downplay, and it's a frizz/volume reducer. I really like it b/c it has the consistecy of a serum, and it keeps your hair from getting too big and poofy.

The only cone is a PEG modified dimethicone. I wonder how many other products are reformulated?

I know they reformulated the Radiant Red Shampoo and Condish. There used to be one for lighter shades and one for darker, but then I couldn't find the lighter shade anymore and now I see they have done away with it and just made one for all shades of red. I am not sure how I feel about that and I have not tried them yet to see how much different they are. I usually use them for about a week after I color my hair and then go back to Jessicurl.

I've been looking for this as someone recommended it a while ago. No luck, we'll probably get it some time in the next decade or so!

I'll buy a bottle of the new Dream Curls just to post the ingredients. I'm sure I'd get looked at strangely & maybe commented on/to if I just stood there & wrote the ingredients & then put the bottle back on the shelf!

I like how the original works as a 3a former for my supposed 2b hair & a refresher, even though it has amodimethicone in the first line of ingredients & cyclomethicone in the middle.

Hopefully the new one will work the same!

I do this, and I frequently get looks. I have a few places I'm comfortable copying down ingreds, but most places, the looks get to me. If someone says something, I just say I have allergies (which I do) and need to compare to a list my dr gave me of "alternate names" for stuff I'm allergic to (which I also do). Usually though, I get looks rather than comments which seems worse.

Looking forward to reading the ingreds!

The bold ingredient items are what is different between the two bottles. I didn't note the difference between VP/Dimethylamino-ehtylmethacrylate Copolymer and VP/Dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate Copolymer because the dash was the only difference. I also didn't note the difference between PEG-8 Dimethicone Meadowfoamate and Dimethicone PEG-8 Meadowfoamate because they just placed the PEG-8 between the words.

Oh! I am so excited. This used to be my HG curl activater/refresher, but I had to sustain from using it when I quit shampooing regularly because it started to build up.

I still have a full/unused bottle of the old formula. Do you think they would exchange it for me for the new one?

    Thanks for the info!

A few years ago I was chased out of a dollar store for writing down ingredients from a bottle of conditioner I wanted to have okay-ed when I was doing CG!

The lady, who even threatened to call the police, wasn't having any explanation/reason/excuse.

I've since refused to set foot in that store.

What the hell? Can you imagine the cops' faces if they showed up and were told she called the cops because you were writing down ingredients? What the hell was she going to tell them? Trying to steal a conditioner formula that isn't even HERS?

Yes, & half of what she said before, in the middle of & afterwards I couldn't translate. She was probably cursing me out in Spanish, though I know a few of the choice words!

I didn't have a camera phone at the time, just a plain Jane "phone" or I might have tried such. But I bet she would have tried wrestling my phone from me!

So, Laurabeth, what do you think of the new ingredients?
  • laurabeth33laurabeth33 Posts: 1,443Registered Users
I do prefer parabens to methylchloroisothiazolinone & methylisothiazolinone, which can be irritants on leave-on products. Cyclomethicone made this producty on my hair, coupled with the olive oil. Propylene glycol should be a better match since it's a humectant and might bring moisture to layer under the olive oil.

So it sounds like a good change then. :?:

I like what it does already to my hair & that's the old formula. Nice shine, decent curl formation for a lazy curl or normal wave, ETA: definition, moist looking & feeling, & no stickiness & no crunch. It'll be nice if it the new formula works the same. :)
