How to keep large spiral curls intact

Hi,
I'm new here and I'm wondering if someone could help me.
When I shower and let my hair dry without touching it, I have large spiral curls. Growing up, my mother called them Banana Curls.

The best way I can describe it is like Bay Kennish on the show Switched at Birth....

Mine is the same pattern, although the canopy is a bit frizzy.

I'm wonder how I can keep the curls from breaking up into smaller curls. I love them when they are big wide spirals. But, I lose that pretty fast once I touch it or sleep.

most of us lose the big clumps of curls when we run our fingers thru them. if you need to fluff up your hair, just flip your head over and massage the roots, that won't disturb the curls.
as fas as sleeping goes, for me, it's hit or miss, but either big or small curls, i think it still looks good.
i guess if you use a hard hold gel they will keep better. i prefer a softer look/feell, so i don't worry about that. play around with products and see what works for you.

    3a, some 2c & 3b, medium texture, porosity normal, low elasticity :-(
