Growing Edges/Shaved cut.

Hello. My edges won't grow, but the rest of my hair will? It's frustrating, and I know this topic has been posted for awhile, but I want some replies.

JBCO is not working for me. I tried it multiple times, with no luck. What can I do?

I had a perm about 2 years ago, and my while the rest of my hair has been growing out(I'm natural with some heat damage), the edges won't grow! I have type 4 hair. Any suggestions?

There is no scientific proof behind JBCO. There are science behind other things but as you state your hair is growing in other areas these clearly are not a problem.

If you can afford it you should go to a trichologist. Simply because you have tried for about 2 years to grow your edges back. You need to have it confirmed whether your hair follicles are permanently damaged or not.

If you can't afford it then you are going to have to sit and make a list of everything you do to your hair from how often you protective style, how often you clean your scalp, etc

Regardless you need to find out by talking to as many female blood relations as you can whether any of them have had similar problems to you.

Thanks for the reply! When I had the perm, my edges were fine!(suprisingly) only after I started wearing wigs, weaves and extensions/braids with the perm, I've noticed breakage. I haven't wore a weave in a few weeks, and I'm just trying to wear my own hair and grow it out. I think those were damaging my hair.

    Sounds like traction alopecia.

When you have a weave or extensions the edges are pulled in tightly by the stylist as they believe it keeps the style longer. On lots of occasions all that happens is the hair drops out. You need to specifically instruct the stylist and check by looking in the mirror while they are doing your hair to leave your edges alone even if the style lasts a few weeks less. If they do that then you need to use them for repeat business simply because they have listened to you regardless of the fact your style didn't last for a long time.

In regards to wigs - some rub the edges of your hair.

Until your edges grow back you need to style your hair without using these methods. When your edges do grow back then you can go back to using these methods but use the sparingly and as I've indicated.

BTW In future it would be helpful when posting and asking for advice you post the entire story.

you will need something stronger to stimulate the follicles. Try Rogaine- Minoxidil. If the follicle is not all the way dead, once you stop using it, the hair wont all fall out- only the chemically dependent hairs will. Your hair will grow in about 3 months or less with this method
    1. Use the Minoxidil at night, if you go to the BSS, it's usually name Minoval and it's cheaper than the Rogaine, but its the same ingredient.
    2. Use Emu Oil 5 minutes after applying the Minoval.
    3. During the day time, use a oil with essential oils and/or sulfur for added benefits.
