New Curls - Hey!

Hey, I just started posting so figured I'd introduce myself. I'm a newly discovered curly/wavy and stumbled on this forum while trying to figure out what the heck to do with my hair. I've always had some wave to my hair but within the last 6-8 months my hair has decided it wants to be curly (2b with some 3a tendancies). Figuring it's due to my gray hair texture and horomones. I'm in my mid 40s and about 60-70% gray, although I color it with demi - permanent color so not sure. My new hair growth seems to be even curlier so not sure what to expect.

I played with the curly girl method a few years ago because my daughter has 2b/3a hair and I wanted to learn how to take care of her curls. I went back to old habits (sulphates and silicones) due to life getting busy though.

The curly girl method seems to work best with my new hair weirdness so I'm back researching and trying products and techniques. I even have my now tween daughter plopping...super cute. I've done a lot of reading here and researching youtube. You guys have been a wealth of information. Thank you!

I live in the southeast so curious as to how our rediculous humidity will change things. I've always fought it a little...looks like I'll have to wrestle with it a lot more now. My daughter is also a competition dancer. I'm going to try to stay as curly girl as possible with her hair this competition season so her hair doesn't take such a beating. Her curls are so pretty and she's at a great age to start learning to take care of them.

Welcome! If you're like me, your hair might actually do better in the humidity! My hair is flatter and has a looser wave in the dryer winter air, and is curlier and bouncier with more volume the rest of the year (i'm also in the southeast). I just have to be sure to use a generous amount of a hard hold gel (like BRHG) when it's very humid. I used to deal with frizz too until I started spending time on these boards and added gel to my routine.

Thanks curlync! I'll have to pick up some of the BRHG...everyone keeps raving about it! Right now Recoil with AIA Curly Jelly are working awesome for our mild NC winter. I am surprised at the hold the Curly Jelly has and how light it is. I'm finally getting consistently decent hair regardless of the dew points.

I don't know where in NC you are, but if you're in the Triangle area (or even if you aren't but you're willing to make a day trip out of it) Scott Musgrave is an amazing stylist who specializes in curly hair. You may already be familiar with him if you've spent some time on NaturallyCurly. I had my first full session with him back in June, and just got my second cut (dry cut only) last week. He's great! Here's his site (he's located in Cary).
