What do you think of this gel's ingredients?

Hi,

I live in Greece and it's hard to find CG friendly curly/wavy hair products here.

I came across this hair gel by Natura Siberica. It's called: Oblepikha curl-defining gel.

I'm new to analyzing ingredients, so hoping for your opinions.

Thanks!

It appears to be CG. Has a lot of protein but if you aren't sensitive it's good.

Hello Greek fellow curly girl! Tell me if it works as I have huge problems with gels! I am intrigued with their shampoos and the so raved hair mask! I have yet to try them though!

    Hi there!

Sorry for my late reply. I wanted to test the gel out a few more times before answering.

It's great to hear from a fellow Greek NC member! I will be sure to let you know of any other interesting products that I find in Greece :)

Out of the Natura Siberica products, I have only tried the gel and the hair mask for extra dry, brittle hair. I liked the mask, though I think people sensitive to strong aromas might not enjoy it as much. To me, it has a sort of mango-candy smell, which I love, but it really is strong.

Just to let you know it contains silicones. If you would like me to list the full ingredients, please do let me know.

You mention that you struggle with gels. I think I do too. But am new to this, so still learning :)

What kind of issues do you usually have with them?

This gel here was nice in that it seems lightweight yet responds well to scrunching. I like the hold. On the back of the tube it advises you *not* to apply to soaking wet hair (in order to ensure better hold). I thought that was interesting.

The drawback for me was that it is very sticky, though it came off my hands easily under running water. This last point is important to me; it's become a way for me to test gels- if they require soap (or a lot of water) to rinse off hands, I usually won't like them on my hair.

Sorry to be of little help! I can't give much useful/objective advice about products right now since I don't know my hair very well at all...(I haven't even accomplished a routine of reliable 1st day hair yet).

But if you have any specific questions about the gel, I am happy to at least try to answer them :):thumright:

    Hello, Arcady!

Would you be so kind to tell me what type of curls do you have and how the gel defines and holds them?
I'm from Romania and the problem in finding gels exists here, too. I'm thinking if I should buy the gel and I need more information (can't find a single review online).

    Hi!

My hair is wavy with some corkicelli. I think I am 2b/c but not sure yet.

It is thin-medium in hair quantity, but the individual strands have been described as strong by a few hair stylists. I believe it's low porosity. (My hair never sinks in the cup-test)

It has natural shine, but is very prone to frizz and tangles. I don't respond well to plopping or turning my hair upside down during styling as this breaks everything up into a stringy mess.

My closest online hair twin (that I know of) is a Palestinian/Greek Youtuber called The Grecian Square.

Her vlog is where I first came across this Natura Siberica gel.

I am not sure if you can include links here, but the video is called "My haircare routine From Damaged to Long & Healthy Hair"

She reviews it there and if I'm not mistaken, shows the texture of the gel on camera. (sorry if I'm wrong about this!)

My personal experience of the gel was that the hold really kept the hair "up" during scrunching motions.

I have tried other gels where you scrunch upwards, let go, and the wave or curl just drops heavily...

Other than that, I was hoping for better result in terms of clumping.

But I think if I had thicker hair or was more experienced with styling I might have a different result..

Sorry I can't help you further, but hope the video will!

Oops I forgot to be more specific about definition- which you asked about.

I like how the gel defines...I got nice individual waves and curls with less frizz than I had with other gels (including Deva Curl Angel). I ended up stringier at the ends than the mid-length, but again could be my inexperience.

If you get it, please let me/us know how it goes.

    What is your hairtype btw?

    xx

    Thank you so much!

My hair is wavy 2b and c, extremely dry and has very low porosity. I can't really use oils or heavy products (I ordered some from Shea Moisture from Amazon, and my hair basically became straight in 2 hours after washing).

Hope your CG journey goes well!

    Thank you :)

I had the exact same result with shea moisture products! I tried many.

And I also do terribly with oils & heavy products.

    Speak soon, take care!

Omg Arcady I came speficly here to suggest exactly that video and that youtuber hahaha! Prepare for a long post....
In the past I had done a hair analysis that helped tremendously but gradually my hair grow out and now it's at least normal to low porosity.
Heat is my friend. Not direct heat but my hair needs hours to suck products in and my body heat helps a ton. Now I would love ingredients if you are not bored.
Strangely my hair is 2b/2c as well and on great days a 3a. My strands are coarse but my density is rather low or medium at its best. Gels dry my hair out and don't have enough hold making my hair flat. That has started happening the last months. My ultimate hg gel is Taft fixing gel but it got discontinued!!!!! That happened with one of my ultimate hg conditioners. Protein makes my curls pop. Basically my problem with gels are that they don't keep my definition without building up. I catch myself grabbing a cleansing sulfate shampoo more often or do 2 rounds of my sulfate free poo. I dunno if it is a water hardness change or a porosity change. I can use coconut oil in adequate amount. I have tried jojoba too but doesn't give me enough softness. Castor oil does make hair significantly fuller. Grapeseed oil does nothing. Olive oil is equally good with coconut but it gives more weight. I am very happy that we can echange product spots hehe. How did you aquire Deva Curl??? I have loved Shea Moisture! Expecially the smoothie but it needs something to hold that moisture in.

Yesterday I tried something oil related. I barely finger combed and wetted my hair slightly and added a drop of jojoba per section, 2 big sections-one per side, and did flat braids! Slept with them in.
I love how soft my hair is. I have some surface frizz but oh well.

    Hi!

Here's some pics of the mask with its ingredients list.

It's funny that you were going to mention the youtuber :)

Strangely I have also been trying jojoba oil on my hair these past few days- and you mentioned it, too.

I like the softness it gives, but also see lots of surface frizz...Anyways, I'll continue to experiment with it since it doesn't seem to weigh my hair down at all- and when used in tiny amounts, doesn't look greasy.

I will try your heat tips! Thanks

Another thing I have been experimenting with this week, is eliminating glycerin from my styling products. It's the first time I've done this since going curly and I really like the result. I would like to find conditioner without it, but no luck yet.

So right now, I am not using the Natura Siberica gel since it has glycerin. Instead I am either not using styling products (except for shampoo and conditioner), or just a supermarket gel which cost me less than 2 euros and which contains no glycerin or other humectants..The brand of the gel is called Flipper (tres chic lol). The scent is horrible, but fades quickly. For anyone interested, there are no proteins in the Flipper gel.

Sorry to hear your HG was discontinued :/

Oh, just to correct my previous hair description: I realised I am 2c/3a and not 2b/c. Thanks to all the pics posted on naturally curly!

I bought the Deva Curl gel during a trip to USA. Did you know there are UK curl shops where you can buy it online? If not, I can let you know what they are.

Glad we can exchange info and product advice too!

I'll keep you posted on new findings!

Omg so happy to find you! I live in Greece too. I discovered the CG methods just today, and I realise it's what my hair need. A few months back I started using sulfate free shampoo and just from that I see a big difference.
Of course I am experiencing the same trouble finding products here, so I as well came across Natura Siberica and gave it a shot. I am so bumped that the mask contains silicones.. Once again I have to start searching for a new haircare routine.

Hi! Welcome! I am also (kind of) new here :)

Great that there are more Greek curlies and wavies to exchange info with. I hope to hear from more people in the Balkan region as well.

Good luck and enjoy your hair adventures :) Please do post whatever is working for you.

I started CG by following all the rules religiously. I was cowashing for several months.. But it turns out that I need at least lo-poo and/or sulfate shampoo.

I do stay away from silicones though. I don't like the look and feel of them on my hair. I am interested in trying water-soluble though, but it's not a priority.

For now I am trying "process of elimination" as a way of getting to know my hair's needs. As mentioned above, avoiding humectants is going well. I also think little to no protein in products is best for me, too.

Yes, the Natura Siberica mask contains silicones so I am not using it. My collection of rejected hair products is expanding :/

Please note this is the mask for Severely Damaged Hair. Perhaps their other masks don't have silicones?

    Take care and speak soon!

    Hey!
What did you use for cowashing? How did you know it wasn't good for your hair? I am thinking of starting co washing tomorrow (I used a sulfate free shampoo up till now).
The Natura Siberica mask I have is the one you have as well, it's a pity because it was good!
As for my hair, I am begining to think that it hates protein or oils, I need to find "moisture" products to try out...

    Hi Joise!

For the most part I was using suave naturals and vo5 strawberry (which I had bought in the US) as well as whatever thin consistency CG appropriate conditioner I could find. I also tried Shea Moisture Co-wash conditioner.

I am not so happy about having to answer your question, because I believe I am a rare case: the reason I stopped cowashing is because I had too much hair fallout in the shower. I already have thin-normal hair and it was getting thin too fast.

The minute I switched back to shampooing the fallout amount became what it used to before I began cowashing.

Even with lo-poo I have more fallout than with sulfate shampoo.

So maybe fallout has something to do with massaging motion: less lather = more need for massage/manipulation=more fallout. Since lo-poo has more lather than cowash and less than sulfates, this would kind of make sense.

Or maybe sulfates just clean the scalp more.... I suffer from acne and other skin problems so it could just be that I need deeper cleaning for the follicles. (Sorry for all the bad science going on here, lol.)

Who knows. But if it is any consolation, I noticed the fallout right away but ignored it because I guess I really wanted it to work. So it's not like it snuck up on me or anything! So if you're worried I'd say don't be: as long as you're seeing what is coming out during a shower, there are no surprises and you can always stop.

If anyone reads this and has also noticed hair thinning due to cowashing: I am happy to say that my hair is getting back to its previous thickness. I am seeing lots of little baby hairs near my scalp and my ponytail is feeling thicker again.

Ok. I am just about done with my essay. :D I seriously write too much!

I sincerely hope I didn't freak anyone out. When you try your cowash you'll be able to see right away if you get more fallout. Just to repeat, I noticed it at the first wash...

    Hope it works for you!

Dang my boyfriend suggested that gel! Lmao I am so thrilled that Greece comes finally on the curly wagon!
Now on the past my hair was blonde and loved co washing! It gave me root curl without any shedding actually but lately my hair is limp when I cowash so I low poo!
Now girls what low poos have you tried and where did you find them? Or are you using a shampoo atm?
Also Arcady I would love those links 😀😀😀
I am so excited to find Greek people in here like when I used CG first time!
And to show my hair I had an amazing curly hair the other day with a middle part.f652c34059d278f30dedfc5ddab82783.jpg

I just realized I found a conditioner without glycerin in and I forgot to post it. My low poo is from that brand too and does amazing job! Be ware though the conditioner is 1L and it can last almost 2 months and costs 8-9 euros. If there is a sale going on it goes lower too. The 1L shampoo has lasted me 6 months. dad74d3f87d19bfc9e3499a9d759bad1.jpg8d1dd6e2201d274fd9d14db09ce619ec.jpg
