Distilled Water vs. Soft Water?

The water where I live is pretty hard, so I have been washing my hair with distilled water for months now. The difference is huge... my hair is so much more moisturized looking and less frizzy than with the hard water. So I am considering investing in an in shower water softener (it's an actual softener and not just a filter) but I was wondering if anyone knows if there will be a noticeable difference between using distilled water and softened water?

I believe distilled water has no minerals, soft water has some minerals. I would check with the water softener company about the mineral content that would be in the water after the system is installed. See if you can get a gallon or two sample of the softened water, to test. Maybe ask around, if you have a regular salon see if they use regular or softened water.
