Anyone ever use or heard of Bounce Curl before?

I've been following Bounce Curl on Instagram (and the creator's Instagram) for a few months now. The creator's curls are really similar to mine, so I've been really interested. I'll probably end up buying it just to see if the results are as good as the ones that I see on Instagram are! :)

Anyone here ever use it before? Here's the Instagram profile for the brand.

    UPDATE:

I ordered it! This will be my last hair product purchase for awhile except a mousse for roller sets and some rollers (or if I run out of my leave-in)... so I'm hoping that I'll love it or at the very least like it. :tongue5:

I do try to avoid protein because I'm protein sensitive, but I know my hair can handle protein in moderation (it does like silk protein though) if I don't over do it.

I'm done with trying other products. I'm finding that drug store brands or less expensive brands are just as good. One being Giovanni. I'm suprised that Giovanni isn't considered a premium brand. The ingredients are incredible and comfortable to premium brands.

Little off topic but I believe you use Giovanni. Been using Gio tea shampoo and condish. What Gio products are you using?
  • Curls80Curls80 Registered Users Posts: 526 Curl Connoisseur
You know, I have the 50/50 shampoo and condish and still like them both, but I've been using the Jason aloe conditioner for a while now and it's working well for me so I'm sticking with it for now. I still use the 50/50 shampoo regularly.

    How moisturizing is the 50/50?
  • Curls80Curls80 Registered Users Posts: 526 Curl Connoisseur
The conditioner is decent for me. I don't like my hair to be weighed down and the 50/50 doesn't do that. The shampoo isn't super moisturizing or anything.

I was literally just coming on here to post this same thing about Bounce Curl! lol I've been following her on IG for a long time and with her first product going on sale and seeing all the results being posted I'm soooo tempted to try it! I'm more interested in a co-wash/cleansing product than I am a curl cream/gel though. I'm looking forward to future products she comes up with for sure! Let us know if you love/like it.

YAY! I'm so glad that I'm not the only person I know that I ordered it! Promise to tell me how it works for you! :angel9:

I should be getting mine in a few days. I live in a beach town in a rural Southern state, so shipping can sometimes take longer. I'm hoping it'll be on time for this though! I try to avoid protein, but I don't use any other stylers/product with protein besides Daily Fix (which I didn't know had protein) and Giovanni (which I'm careful with) so I'm not too worried.

I asked her if she's coming out with other products for coarse textures and she said yes. I'm really interested. If the product works like I keep seeing it works, it might just be the next best thing! :)

I'm glad Giovanni is working for you! :) I also really like it. I love their conditioners more than any other conditioner that I've tried. I like that I get a lot, it's cost effective, and the ingredients are natural/organic. I do like the Olive Oil and Avocado conditioner most of all though. I can't stop raving about that one. It's not easy to find moisturizing and protein free conditioners.

I never tried their stylers. I've heard so/so things.

LOL! I must've had a telepathic moment with you! :tongue5: I've been following for her awhile too! Her curls are similar to mine (which is what prompted me to start following her) except my curls are more finger coiled looking... but I have way more frizz than her! I also don't get nearly as much definition either! Her photo of her hair a few years ago is exactly how my hair looked.

I don't coil my curls at all, but they naturally curls like finger coils for some reason. I think it's because I have Corkicelli curls because everyone I know with Corkicelli curls also has the same finger coil type look that I do.

I promise to tell you how it goes! :angel9: If they can make my curls look like hers or how some of the testimony photos look like, I'll be happy. LOL.

I will definitely update when I get it. I'm in Canada so it will take a while to arrive I'm sure. 🙄

I have some similarities to her hair as well so I'm super excited to try!!! I'm high porosity mainly, though, so I find products just get eaten up in my hair but here's hoping! If my results are near what hers are it will be well worth the wait. So excited!!

Guess what? IT CAME TODAY! It wasn't supposed to come until a few days afterwards... but it came today! How awesome is that? I just washed my hair last night, so I'm going to wait until tomorrow or Thursday to try it. :occasion9: I wish I would've waited until today to wash it. LOL.

I have low porosity hair and products can be tricky, but I'm hoping they'll be good! I also have protein sensitivity, so I'm hoping that it'll still give me an awesome result. My hair can tolerate very low doses of protein, so I figured it might be something that I could use for special occasions. Or maybe it won't bother me (Eco Styler didn't visibly bother me at first) if I rotate it with other products that are protein-free. I mentioned to her on Instagram that a lot of people with coarse hair are protein sensitive and she wrote back that she's trying to be inclusive. She seems very sweet which is a huge plus in my opinion!

I'm crossing my fingers it'll be magical like some of those results that I've been seeing! :icescream:

That's so exciting! I can't wait to find out if you like it! I really want to try it myself but I already have a gel I love and can just run up to Target and grab if I run out. I definitely don't want to replace it with something I have to order online. I hate that I have to order the Aubrey Organics conditioner.

Sorry, SortaRican and Curls80 for just sharing my results! :occasion9: I've been baking, crafting and finishing presents all week for Christmas from morning to night. I didn't get a chance to get online until tonight.

I used it with my Kinky Curly 'Knot Today' leave-in conditioner. Like always, I applied between a dime to quarter sized amount to each section of my hair. I usually part my hair in 5-6 sections.

I rotate between my Denman D41, Wet Brush and a jumbo sized wide-toothed comb for distributing my leave-in. I went with the comb because I didn't want to put additional stress on my hair with the protein.

After that, I did three squirts of the BounceCurl gel to each side of my head.

It has a really light texture; like a waterier and thinner version of Kinky Curly's 'Curling Custard' almost. I applied it from root to end like the instructions then combed it through my hair. The smell is nice. It's not overpowering or annoying. It also doesn't linger. It smells so much better than my Camille Rose's 'Curl Maker' gel (I love it but hate the smell)!

My hair felt so CRUNCHY and HARD! I could definitely tell the product had protein in it. :tongue5: After I combed through the three squirts on each side of my head, I flipped my hair over, rubbed a squirt in between my hands and scrunched my hair. I flipped my hair back over then I added 2 more squirts of the gel again to my hair and scrunched again.

To make up for the crunchiness, I also used a separate curling cream. It helped me with the yucky crunchy feeling from the protein.

When my hair dried, it looked really good!

My hair was defined and very full! The natural finger coil look of my hair was more pronounced. My mom said that my hair looked very spiral and pretty. My hair has spiral curls to begin with, but it seemed to enhance them. I forgot to take photos of my hair when it was finished drying (I forgot because of baking) but I did take photos of it when it was about 25% dry. I'll post once I switch to my phone. :)

I didn't diffuse my hair (like she recommends on Instagram) because that takes too long for my hair -- unless it's necessary for me. I let it air dry like I normally do. To supplement for air drying: I scrunched throughout my drying time. I have 'heavy' hair, so I use scrunching throughout my drying process to keep my curls more defined. I know that would make a lot of people scream... but trust me, it works well for me! Between the density of my hair and the strand width, this seems to be my most effective way to work with my hair! :)

The thing that I liked was that the next morning, I didn't need to really refresh it. It still looked great! I was happy about that because it means that I wouldn't need to keep reapplying the gel to my hair -- like I did with Deva's gel which caused quick protein overload. :angry7:

I did refresh with it though to see how it turned out. I used my spray bottle of conditioner and water, a squirt of Curl Junkie's 'Curls in a Bottle' on my hair, 2 dime sized squirts of the gel mixed with a squirt of Kinky Curly's 'Knot Today' and a fingertip full of my curl cream (to basically dilute it) to my hair to refresh. When it dried, it was back to being really nice looking!

I normally have reactions to majority of hair products thanks to a finicky scalp, but this didn't bother me at all, which was a plus! I was really worried that I was going to lose a lot of hair... but I didn't at all. I definitely won't be using this constantly because of the protein, but I will definitely be using it still.

I'll just rotate it with protein-free products... which is probably a good idea anyway because it's only a 8oz bottle! I was very happy with my results despite my worries about the protein. It reminded me of a better version of DevaCurl's 'Ultra Defining Gel' truthfully.

The only thing that I didn't like was that I felt my ends were a little less curly than with other gels for some reason. I also had a lot more frizz than I'm used to with my other two gels. I don't know if it's because the BounceCurl gel is so light or not... but I'll see how it turns out next time. It might just be the weather as well.

I think if you're not protein sensitive, it really could be something amazing for you.

I don't know if this is the most amazing gel that I've ever used (I also really do love my Curl Maker and Curling Custard) but it is pretty good! I'm not disappointed and felt like it was worth purchasing. I don't regret buying it at all which is good and relieving! LOL. I do think it could go down price-wise for the amount of product in the bottle, though. :)

When I run out, I will definitely repurchase it. Like I said, I'll be using it sparingly... but I do like the results. For a small business and a first product, I think it's a very good sign!

I don't know if it's because the BounceCurl gel is so light or not... but I'll see how it turns out next time. It might just be the weather as well.

I think if you're not protein sensitive, it really could be something amazing for you.

I don't know if this is the most amazing gel that I've ever used (I also really do love my Curl Maker and Curling Custard) but it is REALLY good!

I just received mine today. Im almost nervous to try, just because I see on Instagram a million good experiences with this product and I keep wondering, do any of these people have high porosity hair? Lol. I never apply products soaking wet so I may try to follow her directions to the letter just to see what happens!! It's almost like, of course my hair will be the one head of hair that doesn't respond the way it should ha ha. lol.

I agree on the price. If it works amazing then I may say it's worth it!

I used to think I was protein sensitive. I don't think I am, though. MGA gel and BRHG both have protein and while my hair can dry out sometimes, mainly it's fine with these gels. I have protein coincidentally in my shampoo and condish as well.

One thing I wasn't sure of- does she blot her hair at all after washing? My hair holds a lot of water when I wash. Then the water would weigh it down and would dry yucky if I air dried. So I have no problems diffusing but I'm just thinking my hair can't be completely sopping.... I'll experiment. I'll be trying it today! Yay!

Here's the photo of my hair. I forgot to take a photo of it dry. It's about 25% dry at this point. I forgot to take a photo of it dry. I'm so sorry. :(

When it was fully dry: my entire head had those spiral coil curls. They look kind of funny here because my hair wasn't dry. My hair springs and curls more as it gets drier.

My 3B curls were more spirally looking. My 3As were really full. I loved it. I personally didn't get these results from the UDG by Deva. The only gels that have worked great for me have been the CRCM and KCCC.

I didn't notice any difference on my 3C curls. They were the same as when I use the Curling Custard and Curl Maker. I was able to disturbute on that section without issue. I need slip in my gels for my really tight curls.

You also see the frizz on my crown! I don't get that with my other two gels, so that was a disappointment like I said.

I followed her routine video on Instagram and the advice of the card that came with it -- except I used a tee shirt to scrunch some of the wetness away. My hair already takes forever to dry, so I try to do that to keep my clothing from being soaked. LOL!

From what I've seen, she just goes straight to diffusing. However, based off your profile picture, I think your hair is way more high density! You can probably do what I did.

I have seen high porosity people using it from what I've seen on Instagram! Like you said, everyone's hair is different, so products don't always work. I feel the way about my hair's coarseness like you do about your porosity! Most people don't have actually coarse hair (usually medium) so I don't know a lot of people with coarse hair. A lot of products don't work for me because even though I have coarse hair, it's also low porosity. UGH!

I'm not ridiculously protein sensitive, but my hair will overload easily. So far, it seems like the Daily Fix is the only thing that has protein that didn't make my hair crunchy. Though to be fair, it's not a strong protein in it. Eco Styler gave me some protein breakage... and I didn't even use it a lot! No breakage from Giovanni Leave-In or BounceCurl thankfully! I did overload on the leave-in, but it didn't give me breakage luckily!

Please let me know how it works for you! :angel9:

On a random note: I found the packaging to be very cute. I liked that it was wrapped like that! I liked that it had a separate card of instructions too.

If it doesn't work, I know she said to DM her and she will work it out with you. She seems very nice from everything that I've seen her and from when I chatted with her on Instagram!!

Here's the videos that I followed for the product:

Well personally in the pic you show I think your hair looks amazing with it!!!! I think it responded well! We have similar looking hair I think.

Ok. So I tried it. I think I have to experiment a bit more. My hair isn't much different than usual but maybe the curls are a bit skinnier, maybe a bit tighter. I don't usually comb my hair after applying product. I didn't use a leave in, and I've been working wi a diff shampoo and condish so maybe I'll tweak a couple of things, like go back to my usual condish. Maybe just a loose finger comb. And this whole putting products in wet hair... Ha ha I know that's what many people do but I don't ever do it that way. I followed her instructions to the letter (except blotting) and it seemed to be kind of ok with this particular product...

I also blotted my hair with a t shirt before doing this, because my hair holds so much water.

I do overall like this product and I'm hopeful!

By the way, I am collecting hair right now for an analysis. I am not sure whether my hair is fine or coarse. It seems to meet characteristics of both so maybe it's medium.

    Oh what a journey lol!

Well, I tried again and it's not performing for me like it does for the bounce curl girls I see on Instagram. Again, I blotted, but this time I used a curl cream as per her recommendations on Instagram and then followed with the cream gel. Diffused right after. It was pretty curly but not as defined or shiny as her hair. I am a bit disappointed in it. I'm not sure about this product for me at the moment.

Also, when I used it last time, my hair did not last and got puffy really quickly, losing definition. Well, I'll leave it for a bit.

I think our hair also looks similar! :D I think I said that to you before actually, LOL! You're a 3A/3B like me too. I hope you get your analysis soon! Medium texture is actually the most common. I think it's also common for medium textures to have characteristics of both coarse and fine. My hair is definitely coarse. It actually drives me a little nutty sometimes. :tongue5:

Thank you about the compliment! :) I don't think my hair responded badly to it. However, I also was kind of so/so on the results. It did make my hair look very similar to hers, but it didn't necessarily 'tighten' my pattern, as it claims to. My main pattern is 3B, so it's easier for my curls to keep shape... so I don't know if it kept my curls so well because of that or not.

I tried using it again with a flexi-rod set. I took my flexis down early, so my hair was still wet. I took three squeezes of it in my hand then followed her steps. The frizz was actually worse. :( I don't think that I necessarily got a bad result... but I think a problem is that the gel isn't multi-functional.

When your hair got poofy: was it frizzy poofy? I have REALLY bad frizz in general. It didn't control the frizz for me at all. I was actually surprised that it had no control when it came to frizz. I know he photo was small (I took it on my phone) but I think you could probably see how bad my canopy looked.

Are you having any better luck with it? I think if your results aren't what you want them to be: you should try contacting her. I saw a bunch of people contact her with similar issues and they got answers/helpfulness from her.

I don't think this was a bad product for me at all... but I know that I can't use it very much or I'll have serious protein overload. :tongue5: In terms of making my hair look like hers: it did what it claimed for me. I don't think it's 'perfect' but I do think that it's a good start. When I first tried it, I loved it. On my next wash day, I'm going to try using it and see if I get the same results. :P

I hope your next try was better! Was it better?

Do you think that it could be that you need a leave-in possibly too -- not just a cream? I think her language is confusing. I think by 'cream' that she means a leave-in, but in my experience, I needed a leave-in AND a curl cream.

Lol I didn't remember you saying that ha ha! 3a/b for sure. I have one 3c (one!! ONLY one haha) curl at the nape of my neck. I love it.

I know what you mean. My hair didn't have dramatic results at all but my hair wasn't in bad shape before I tried it you know? I've worn my hair curly my whole life, so it wasn't a crazy difference from any other kind of gel. Actually, my hair didn't really like it the next time I tried it. I did end up contacting her about the product and yes she was very kind and helpful. Yes, it may be that I needed a leave in for it and not specifically a curl cream. All the suggestions she had I had basically tried, but I hadn't tried an actual leave in conditioner. I don't have one I love right now.

What's funny is that I've found throughout the past while that products that dry my hair out tend to have pvp/pva in it. Plain old pvp doesn't seem to have the same negative effect. I'm not sure if there's anything to that but it's a common denominator in styling products I don't like!

I wanted to like this cream gel a lot. The results that many people have are amazing. But I'll try it again in a bit. I haven't given completely up!

I did end up trying something yesterday that was quite good for me. I washed with Curly hair solutions shampoo and conditioner, sealed with sweet almond oil (in an attempt to control my porous hair) and then put one pump of deva Supercream in soaking wet hair. I plopped for about five minutes and then scrunched/raked/smoothed (lol!) spiralicious gel. Diffused. Finished with a couple spritzes of deva flexible hairspray. My hair was super voluminous (what I'm always going for) and the curls were a bit tighter than usual. It was awesome. It wasn't bounce curl but anyways ha ha.

I used Bounce Curl for the first time yesterday. (I wish I would have found this thread before posting a new one). I liked my results but noticed my hair felt dry as soon as I started to apply the gel to my soaking wet hair. It's like the product sucked the moisture right out. I did end up with bouncy curls once I scrunched the crunch.

I never get 2nd day hair so I did my routine again (Deva Decadence No Poo, One Condition and Supercream). Again, the gel seemed to suck the moisture right out of my hair. It doesn't feel dry after I scrunch it though.

I doubt I will be purchasing it again. I need to use way too much product. The bottle is $18 for 8 oz. plus shipping.. I'd go broke.

The first picture (before/after Bounce Curl) is from my first day using Deva products and Bounce Curl. Left is using Ouidad products. Right is using Deva/Bounce Curl

The second pic was taken this morning. Products used: Deva/Bounce Curl. I can see some frizz on the top.

I got the same effect as you did. I put the gel in soaking wet hair and my hair felt instantly dry. I tried it again today after reading your new thread lol, especially in the interest of using up products. I had used some curl junkie leave in conditioner before, which helped, but still my hair was pretty dry. Weird.
