The history behind my hair.

I am an African American who recently did an Ancestry DNA test, a little additional research thereafter, and discovered my roots in Ethiopia. I was amazed in the likeness I have with the people there, particularly with their hair.

On the left you have a Native Ethiopian, on the right is myself. :)

Well that's kind of a fun thing to do. My grandmother used to say we had French and Moorish blood. But I don't really know what that is. I know dentists get quite excited about the shape of my teeth roots. Something to do with my ancestry. But I only really know what my dad's side was. They were Lithuanian.

Chupie, I have Lithuanian too. Maybe we're related and have the both inherited the "straight waves" thing from the same side of the tree. :)

Herb, that's awesome you did a DNA test and found where you have roots. I do see the similarity in the hair too. Such nice coils.

    Herb has the best coils!

Hey maybe Lithuania is the legacy of straight waves!

Although one of my real-life hair idols is 3a/3b and just has the most gorgeous hair (she shampoos and doesn't follow CG whatsoever either). She comes from Lithuania. So there is hope for us yet. Maybe we have dormant curly genes. :)

Pfft. I know I do not. I seem to be in between everything. It's frustrating.

Yep. This morning the right side of my hair is looking good excellent wave and whirly. The left side is beachy wavy. It frustrating but starting to accept it.

Ha ha. I have been known to anger scrunch my recalcitrant side.

I am in love with the show Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr. I remember the first show where they visited Yo-Yo Ma's ancestral home in China dating back hundreds of years. They found his "book of life" in the wall. They found he was related to Eva Longoria and she said, "Yo-Yo Ma is Mexican!?" It was so cute. Discovering your heritage is amazing and I am very happy for you that you did.
