How to keep a lasting braid out?

Hi, I've been transitioning for close to a year and I still do not know how to make my braid-outs last for at least 2-3 days. I've tried the pineapple method, but since my hair is between short and medium length it doesn't work out. I've tried just bundling it on top of my head and putting on a scarf, but it came out frizzy and dry. I've tried a big ponytail, but that left an weird indentation in my hair. I don't know what else to try, which is why I am asking those of you who have mastered keeping your braid out for a couple of days. I want to be able to have moisturized, defined next-day braid-out, I just don't know how. Should I moisturized it somehow beforehand? Also, I've considered the SLAP cap (satin-lined cap), and maybe I could just slip that over my braid-out curls. I just want an input from someone, or maybe some tips.

Thanks in advance.
