Getting A DevaCut! *Before & After Pics Posted!*
I am beyond excited! I went CG in December of last year and have been *dying* to get a professional cut to fix my split ends and little remaining heat damage. I'm a poor college student and my mom agreed to take me this week. I researched salons in my area and found one with 3 DevaCurl certified stylists and a fair price for services and am going there (if you're a NC curly too, it's called Salon 360). I was disappointed to only find one review, as I monitor reviews closely to help with decision-making (because if someone says their hair was messed up there, I'm not going!)
If any of you have any tips for me of what to expect, what I should keep in mind/ask the stylist(a) when I get there, etc., I'm all ears! I'm very anxious because this is the one cut I get before I go back to college in two months, and if this doesn't go well, ... it won't be good. I do feel very comfortable, however, because as I stated earlier there are multiple stylists there who are DevaCurl certified which is better than my old salon that says they 'can handle curly hair'. Plus the one review was 5 stars, and was from a woman with coarse 3b/3c hair, and mine is medium and mostly 3a/3b so I'm not worried that they won't be able to do my hair well.
But, yeah! Tips, notes, what have you! I'd love em'!

I feel like with every passing day I'm going to get more and more excited, still. I was so excited this morning I had a hard time getting myself to call because I was worried they would pick up and I'd start talking so fast they wouldn't understand me lol.

I think so too. When I asked one of the stylists if she would recommend me just letting one of the other stylists in the salon do it, she said that they have watched her and the other Deva stylist and that they have done other curly clients, but she also first asked how curly my hair was.
To me that was a red flag. If she had to ask how curly my hair was, that tells me that there is a possibility that the other stylists can't handle really curly hair, so that was one of my biggest motivators to just wait!

The only issue now is that I can't get in touch with them! I called the salon first, and found out that the stylists book appointments on their own, so I was given Ms. Erin and Ms. April's numbers (they are the Deva certified stylists). I called one and then the other to see their availabilities, only to find out that neither are available until next week. And then I tried to call them back and neither responded, likely because they're booked up with clients. I'm just super eager to at least have the appointment verified so I only have to sit and wait!

The only thing I noticed is that she didn't really give me anything to do to prepare. I remember that in all the videos I watched of people getting DevaCuts and in some of the experiences shared on here they always said that they were told to come in with their hair styled and dry so it could be cut like that. I think I'll still go in like that just in case, but Iunno. I feel like that's just my anxiety making me think too much about things like that!

I'll post before and after pics (not much was cut, but you can definitely see a change in curl definition). Also, does anyone know how to make pictures smaller? Whenever I post them they come out way too big and I don't know how to fix it. . .

one thing you said struck me -- that you need to use a lot of conditioner - did she use deva products? because i remember way back when i used them i had to use literally several palmfuls of conditioner. and now, i use curl junkie and it's maybe 3 quarter-sized amounts of conditioner. so just know that not all brands require so very much product. maybe you were using too little for any brand, so up the amount. conditioner is the most important thing for curlies. usually.
post pics when you can.

Agree with this, I use much smaller amounts with curl junkie than I did with Deva
~ sent with love and good intentions ~
Yeah, she used the Deva products. I think the main reason she said I needed so much though was just because the top/some back portions of my hair are very damaged and dry, and need all the moisture they can get to be workable. I think in total she used this Deva Spray (didn't catch the name of it, but she said it was a leave-in too), the Deva No-Poo, OneCondition, that Super Cream thing that just came out apparently, and then one more spray that she said was just to add moisture (that top part is *really* dry, lol!).
And I am happy with the cut! At first the shape looked weird to me but as the day went on I grew to like it better. I'm sure in a few when I start my daily routine I'll be able to get a better feel for it when I style it as I usually do. I'm going to add a warning now that I suck with figuring things out and the pictures might come out big, so sorry if they are huge!

So overall, I love it! My curls look much less stringy and are a lot more defined now thanks to the cut! The top looks a little frizzy in the photos because of my having put on that headband (before it was like the rest, for the most part!) The canopy still has a bit of damage, so I was told that in about 6 months or so I can expect to be able to come in to have the rest of the damage cut, since my hair is apparently growing very quickly. I'm really happy I went, as the cut, and the information she gave me made it all well worth it, and I only paid $65 total for the cut, wash and style (and info!) I am excited to go back during Christmas break for my next trim, and to see how much it has grown.
