Products for dry coarse frizzy thick 3b curls?

Lately my hair is extra dry and frizzy. I only wash once a week and I just spray a mix of water and conditioner in between to refresh. I always find that a heavy sticky gel works best for my curls as it helps to weigh it down and de frizz but lately nothing's working day one is good but then it's just downhill afterwards. I've tried oils and it just makes it worse. I've also tried leave ins and also find that my hair is just too puffy soft. Any suggestions ? Thanks

I have the exact same issues and hair type as you!! I also love the thick sticky gels. I am interested in what others say.

You may need some protein. If you are protein sensitive, use coconut milk and honey.

How do I know if I'm protein sensitive? Is there a product I can buy?

I currently use the ouidad tres effects gel which normally works well and mixed chicks deep conditioner when I wash once a week shampoo really just whatever I have Giovanni in the green bottle I have now. But I've tried oils and leave ins and I feel like it makes my hair more puffy soft and frizzy when I'd rather more control.

Your hair would be stiff. (after applying the protein treatment) that's how you'd know if you're protein sensitive. people use eggs instead of coconut milk, but I don't recommend it for the fact that it can make your hair stiff and hard. And plus, with coconut milk you won't have to do a DT afterwards. 😉

And yes, there is a product you can buy it's Shea moisture Jamaican black castor oil leave in. I have low porosity hair and it is not heavy like castor oil.

A good heavy sticky gel would have to be Biosilk Rock Hard Gel. I do love that gel. It's very very hard holding. Never found one that holds harder than that. I recently rediscovered Jessicurl Spiralicious gel and really liked it as well- it gave great hold.

I'll give the biosilk a try. What do you use for leave in or deep treatment and shampoo/cond? My hair is extremely dry brittle and coarse right now!

I use Jessicurl gentle cleansing cream, and Giovanni 50/50 conditioner. Good slip, fairly moisturizing but not heavy. Protein free. If I want protein I add colorful neutral protein filler to that or I use curl junkie's protein deep treatment. I also use curl junkie deep fix deep conditioner occasionally. I also use kinky curly knot today (very small amount) for a leave in. I have been experimenting with the super soaker method as well!

Sometimes I use an apple cider vinegar rinse (3 tbsp per two cups of water) after my deep conditioner, every few weeks or so. Helps with frizz.

My routine isn't perfect or anything (I'm always learning!) but it's pretty good. I do still, no matter the condition of my hair, need a good gel to control my hair.
