Coconut oil before/sealing after coloring?

Hi, I'm planning on dying the bottom half of my hair purple.:color:

I'm wondering if anyone has tried the coconut oil before dye and what method you used that worked...
considering coconut oil penetrates so well into the shaft, I was thinking of bleaching then applying coconut oil then dying purple (demi-permanant dye which is just cuticle-depth) with Special effects Deep Purple then applying jojoba oil to seal... or should I use a deep conditioner with protein first then jojoba oil?

I've been CG since 2011 and have never dyed my hair so its very low porosity and healthy happy curls but it will be porous after bleach and dye :-/

Don't use it before dye, it will take the dye longer to penetrate through the oil. I made the mistake of doing that once with bleach - I wasn't even thinking. It took twice as long to process. Plus if the purple can fade fast, it may not even take that well to your hair.

Did you rinse off the excess coconut oil after letting it soak in?

No... I didn't put that much oil on, just enough to seal my hair. Plus, oil and water don't mix, so there's really no "rinsing" it off really.

Coconut oil doesn't seal, though... it's supposed to be the most penetrating oil...
