recommendations on safer hair dyes

does anyone have any?
I'm a little over 30 percent grey and need something that's safe besides henna. I've tried henna but realize it doesn't work well with my hair.
if you've had experiences with other dyes, please chime in.
Thanks

3b/C with nicer curls on the bottom!
Hair: naturally very dry and VERY porous
hair seems to be moody.
Does not seem to like oils
Does not like protein or too much?
Does not like rich products
So, I ask myself. What does it like? That is the question, and I'm on a mission.

Unfortunately, henna didn't work for me. I use Preference by L'oreal, but I don't know how safe it is in terms of the issues above. I haven't had an allergic reaction, but I sure hope it doesn't cause cancer! I have heard that the darker dyes (dark brown, even medium brown and darker) are more linked to cancer than other colors but the research is all inconclusive.
Please let us know what your exact safety concern is and what you decide to do. :toothy4:
Highly porous. Color over grey.
I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....
Every day is a gift :flower:
Actually, all of the above. However, I"m not too concern of not being CG since I don't necessarily follow CG to a "t"
My concern is the chemicals and based on what I have been reading the concern of perm dyes linked to cancer. I was reading in the UK they don't sell the dyes we sell hear for that same reason; linked to cancer. They are more regulate there than here in the US.
Like you, henna made my hair worst. So, I stopped. It's been over a year I don't use henna. Even though I was using light mix just to cover my grays.

It supposedly has no ammonia but I'm sure it has PPD, and I do worry about reactions and the carcinogen factor. Maybe not as bad as permanent color?
I've researched henna and hennindigo but I'm afraid of curl loss,(fine wavy hair like mine is most susceptible) and a getting a color I don't like with it being permanent.
As Curlypearl said, I've heard the darker colors are maybe not as safe in terms of chemicals but highlights fry my hair, causing wave loss for me.
Poos" Nioxin, Devacurl, Jessicurl
Leave in: Ouidad Moisture Lock/B'leavein
Rinse out: VO5 Kiwi Lime, Mane and Tail,Too Shea
Mousse: Oscar Blandi Hair Life, Ouidad Playcurl
Gel: Devacurl Light defining gel
I use Golden chestnut to blend my grays (over 40% in the crown now) into lighter brown highlights in my brown hair. I have been using it safely and successfully for over 15 years. It is peroxide and ammonia free, very gentle on our curls.
I always recommend going 2-3 shades lighter than what you want, as most haircolors go darker on curls. This is a non-lifting color, so it won't lighten as others can do. Also, if you still have any remains of henna on your hair, I would give them a call for special instructions. Robert and his staff are all wonderful, helpful people. Tell them CurliLocks/Sherri sent you and they will take good care of you.
3b/c/a mix. medium texture, low porosity
