Mop Top Curly Custard vs. Camille Rose Naturals Curl Maker

russianprncssrussianprncss Posts: 450Registered Users Curl Neophyte
Hi Wavies!

I'm in that frustrating place between 2C and 3A and it's time for me to buy a new gel. I had previously been using Mop Top Curly Custard and I'm tempted to just get that again because it worked so well, but CRN Curl Maker has gotten a great reputation and I was just wondering how wavies felt about it.

Also, any advice on how to determine hold would be great. I'm pretty sure MTCC would be considered medium hold but I'm just not sure. I know I'm looking for something that'll help the curl pattern last.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Good reviews doesn't necessarily mean you'll like it as well. I would recommend going with what you KNOW works for you; if you're like most of us, you have a whole cupboard full of "curl products" that you hoped would be your HG that weren't. Like you I am in that place between a 2C and 3A.

I'm definitely a "curly" 2c. Sometimes curly and sometimes just wavy upper layer with a ringlety under layer. My hair has been thick and coarse since birth. Strawberry blonde in color that can and does change depending on the type and amount of light.

All in all, I'm happy with my hair type but almost for sure think yours is prettier. :)

It is a product I will always buy if the formula stays the same. It's just my favorite product since going wavy. LOVE it.

My only thought is if you live the MT, why change? I'd love to try that too someday. What is it like? What do you especially love about it.

I've gotten better about being a product junkie. At the beginning of my journey I was trying EVERYTHING, so you're right in saying if I like this product then why would I try another (just out of curiosity, I guess).

I love Mop Top's Curly Custard because it reminds me of KCCC (which was okay for me but ALWAYS left flakes). It provides quite a bit of hold and is a bit of a thicker consistency than KCCC and only flakes if I use way too much.

Chupie, why do you love CRN Curl Maker?

It is also like KCCC (which never worked for me) but is less sticky. It's not real finicky. You can over do but not so easily. It is defining and normally I use a gel over top but I can use IT as a gel over another product with light hold. It just seems to *always* work.

What would be nice is if you had a target that carried it on the ground. Then if you didn't like it you could just return it.

I tried both these products out at the same time with the same leave in, KCKT. Both results were actually AMAZING. The CM seemed to "clump" better and have a little more hold. Both left my hair with amazing shine, definition and great hold. I live in a dry climate with mid to low dews and sometimes we get a lot of rain. I'm hoping both hold up well all year round. The only thing I worry about is formula change with the CM as it's PERFECT the way it is now. I can't believe I waited so long to try these out. I'm hoping I continue with great results with both. :D

I used a sample of the MopTop. IMO it is not at all like CRCM. But I liked it. It is soft and shiny and moisturizing. Not much hold though. I need gel with it. Love the citrus smell. I'd actually compare it to Deva B'Leave in only its better.

I like the CR curl maker more than the Mop Top custard. Don't get me wrong, I do like the custard but I LOVE the curl maker better. I do feel like CM has more hold and seems to clump better. Just my two cents :).

ETA; the MT custard works great for me now that I've used it some more. I just need to make sure I use enough. I'm actually going to purchase the larger jar soon as well as more of the medium hold gel.

Interesting feedback! I will definitely have to try the CRN CM sometime! I've always felt like Mop Top gives me pretty good curls but I've found it's SUPER dependent on what I use in the shower and such. Like for real, I've just assumed I won't get the same results every single time so I just try to avoid the things that DON'T work! (Then again, there are days when I use heavier products and my hair LOVES them!).
