Deva Alternative for Coarser Dry Waves/Curls

MarmeladeMarmelade Posts: 12Registered Users
Any suggestions for alternative products to Deva that are a bit heavier/more moisturizing while still encouraging curl?

My hair is 2c-3c, with some parts very curly and a few close to straight, but also dense, low-porosity, coarse, dry and very frizz-prone. I like Deva's clean ingredients and low scent level, but it just doesn't seem to cut it on my more "textured" head.http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/images/smilies/cwm10.gif

Gosh maybe try some Shea Moisture products? Also As I Am would be a good set of products to try. You can find both at Sally's and Target.

I think a good conditioner helps quite a bit! I love a lot of the Curl Junkie conditioners, especially the Curl Rehab. I know it's marketed as a deep treatment but I use it as a regular conditioner.

You could also try creams since they are usually heavier. I also like jellies quite a bit like KCCC, CR Curl Maker, Uncle Funky's Daughter's Curly Magic. Stay away from mousses since they tend to dry out one's hair.
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Beauticurls, CJ Smoothing

    jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC
gels: CJ CQ, CJ Pattern Pusha, BRHG

I second Curl Junkie products. I especially love the Argan & Olive Oil (I add some drops of Sally's CNPF to it for curl enhancement), Smoothing Lotion, and Curl Rehab is excellent too.

It's a lighter product, but I found it much more moisturizing than the One Condition - Yes to Blueberries. It's similar, but does a much better job. It's my go-to whenever anything else fails. Yes to Cucumbers works too.

The Curl Junkie Curl Rehab is awesome. The Shea Moisture Smooth line is also good, as well as Jessicurl Too Shea conditioner.

+curl junkie -- any of the conditioners and, as already stated, the deep treatments, curl rehab and deep fix, work very well as leave ins.

I've tried Shea Moisture but find the scent overwhelming (and also didn't seem to give me much control or definition).

Curl Junkie sounds promising... Is the scent very strong though?

I like Too Shea as well. Have others had luck with Jessicurl's styling products, though?

The scent of CJ products isn't as strong as Shea Moisture, but depending on the product it can still be fairly strong. I think it's right in the middle for my personal taste. The products smell really good though.

I like Jessicurl. I've used the Too Shea with nothing but success, and I also like the Rockin' Ringlets in the higher dews.
