Substitue for KCCC less sweet smell

Hey Curlies,

I just got my first KCCC and even after using it just a few times I love it.
Just the vanilla and coconut smell is very strong and my boyfriend doesn't like it at all. Or to be more precise: he hates it.
And he always loved my hair and its smell : /

Did someone have the same problem?
Did someone find a supplement?

I have 3a hair, low porosity and normal density.

I think that is a tough one to find. I have never seen anything that even compares. I would start looking for any product that has marshmallow root in its ingredients.

Try either Camille Rose Naturals Curl Maker or Uncle Funkys Daughter Curling Magic. Both have very similar ingredients as KCCC but without the sickeningly sweet smell.

I can't buy Uncle Funkies in Germany bit I found Camille Rose. Does it smell like coconut as that is third on the ingredient list.
And Sheilacurl, which is the second styler you are using BR?

And Violets which products with Marshmellow Root would you recommend?

Hey Stef,

I would say that it has a light, almost fruity smell.
I top it off with BRHG and I get the most consistent results.
Have you tried making your own Flaxseed Gel? That can be a similar styler as aloe-based stylers.

Funny that you tell me just now, an hour ago I tried to make my first flaxseel gel. But I did not try it yet.
What do you mean by BRHG?

BRHG stands for Biosilk Rock Hard Gel. It's a bit pricy but I only need 2 jelly bean-sized drops on my whole head. I apply it right after the CRCM.

If you're already making your own FSG, you could try some or all of the following:

soak the seeds in water that has been infused with chopped marshmallow root from a natural foods or herb store - this adds that slip that KCCC has (and gives me cystic acne, bleh)

make FSG in aloe juice/water mixture

add pectin (the no-sugar needed kind) to your FSG after straining as a thickener

add agave nectar for hold - I'm trying this one as soon as the dewpoints warm up a bit

All of these ingredients are found in KCCC! I know that there are some threads around concerning people trying to make their own aloe gels that mimic KCCC; ultimately I think it is hard to replicate. But these are some ideas you could experiment with. LOTS of FSG recipes out there

Try mixing a few drops of jojoba oil with a blob of aloe vera gel (I like Fruit of the Earth, which I think is very close to the AVG I get when I squeeze the gel out of an aloe vera leaf, but I don't know if you can get that in Germany) in your palm. Many years ago I read a comment here on CurlTalk that it was just like KCCC in results. I'd never tried KCCC at the time, and it only came in the big jar at the time, so it was quite expensive. I tried the AVG with jojoba oil, and it worked well, so I then tried KCCC, which I like very well. I wouldn't say that it's the same, but it's pretty close. So sometimes I go back to using the AVG with jojoba because I'm traveling and can't take enough KCCC with me; and that's easier to find and cheaper to buy at my destination, as well as less painful to have to jettison.

If you like making your own FSG, I would recommend adding a good sized glob of AVG to it, rather than using the thinner preparations. I like that as well, though it's not really an option when traveling.

Wow, thanks so much all of you sweet curlies!
I just have my first day with FSG (without any additives). And I really really love it. Plus it has no smell and my boyfriend loves my hair again : ).
I just bought some AVG online and have to wait for it, it's tough to get in Germany.
I'll try the Curl Maker, when I come to the US next month and find it in a shop.
And I guess I have to try to sell my KCCC .
