Does anyone do highlights at home?

I have only had highlights once, but am considering doing it again for fun and to try and blend in my grays. I'm tempted to try it myself at home. I haven't stepped into a salon for a haircut in years and honestly the thought of it terrifies me. If I could do my own highlights without making a huge disaster out of my hair I would. Does anyone do highlights at home? Any thoughts, advice?

I have before. I bought one of those plastic hair things with the holes that I could pull some hair through. I haven't done it since like 10-15 years ago, though.

I've done it before. I just bought a frosting kit but I didn't use the cap. I just "painted" on the highlights where I wanted them. I'm thinking about doing it again.
