Apricot Oil

I recently tried the LOC method due to winter dryness. I added apricot oil to my normal routine which is co wash (yes to cucumbers, EO), Moisture Maniac as a LI, and now a tiny bit of apricot oil.
My hair is not as dry but is really frizzy, poufy and I definitely lost some wave. Today was second day hair and I spritzed and condished. I looked like I'd stuck my finger in a light socket! Basically it feels nice but doesn't look so hot.
Can apricot oil have the same effect as too much protein? This is sort of the way my hair gets if I over do it with protein.

2a/b, normal porosity/elasticity, medium/high density, color treated- haven't colored it in 4 months.

Your hair just may not like THAT oil. Oils are all kinds of different molecular structures and sizes. Some folks get that from Jojoba too. Sounds maybe like it isn't quite heavy enough. You could pick up a bottle of grapeseed oil at any grocery store and try that.

PS Do you top with a gel? Some, wavies in particular, really need LOCG adding gel on top. Leave in, Oil, Creme (or definer and some may have enough oil in them to combine the two steps into one "oil seal cream") and gel.

apricot kernel oil and protein are completely different, so no it cannot act like a protein.

I agree on the gel. Also, Yes to Cucumbers conditioner has cetyl esters in which can build up on some folks. You also said you sprizt and condish - spritzing can cause frizz in itself.

How much oil are you using? You only need a tiny drop or two, depending on hair length. Also, did you apply all over or just to your ends? Just on the ends is all you need.

Thanks to you both for your responses. I use Yes to Cucumbers Shampoo not conditioner. The spritz and condish is definitely not for me. I have to wet it and kind of start again.
I get build up issues really easily so if I use too many products at one time it can leave me with flat, limp, greasy looking hair. Gels don't seem to work for me. They tend to weigh my hair down. Maybe I need to play with the amounts of gel I use.
I used a few drops of the apricot oil on the last few inches of my hair. I will definitely try another oil and see if I get better results. I will also try the gel again (I have half a dozen or more in my stash drawer!) but will try using less.
Thanks again for giving me your thoughts and new ideas!

Oh, sorry, you said cowash and listed Yes to Cucumbers. My mistake :)

Good luck, I hope you can find something that works for you. I'm having trouble with gels myself. Have you tried cupping water in your hands and squeezing onto your hair? Or wet your hands and emulsify some conditioner in your hands then apply to your hair? Those techniques seem to produce much less frizz.

Also for less frizz try squeezing down the hair shaft in sections first and then when you scrunch, just scrunch once and then pump your hand a bit. that will all encourage clumps to stay together. To SOTC, you can also try twisting the sections. See the "Alternative SOTC" video in my signature.

Sorry Sixelamy....my mistake not yours. I meant to type low poo.

Chupie, I have Eco styler (clear), Garnier Pure Clean Gel , Herbal Essences Totally Twisted, Sweet Curls Flaxseed gel that I purchased on Etsy, Free and Clear, L'Oreal Above It All Invisi Gel, Kinky Curly Curling Custard. I have a few more in the back of the drawer that I didn't feel like digging out!
I have a feeling it's either my technique or the amounts I'm using which is causing them to not work on my hair. Also too many products at once just weighs it down too much. I have a combo of fine/medium hair.
I'm going to keep experimenting and Chupie I will definitely check out your YouTube videos.
    Thanks again to you both.

Definitely try less or try diluting with water in your hand.

You may like something like Sevi Blue Yarrow styling gel or Spiral Solutions Curl Enhancing Jelly. Those are both extremely light. SS CEJ helps pattern enhancement too.
