While watching The Best of Me last night I became sentimental when the two, young, first lovers were discussing the need to "have a song". I remember having that conversation at 16 with my first love. It was mandatory but it took a few years for the song to find us. It's from the early 50s and has been sung by many different people over the years. I'll share Patsy Clines version

George Michael's 'A Different Corner' is our song. I actually have no recollection of how it became our song, my SO doesn't even like it. I like it but admit it is a bit cheesy! Nevertheless I had the words 'turn a different corner' engraved on a bangle a few years ago (our names are engraved on the inside, too pukey to have them on show!).

I hate country, and sadly a country song is "our song". My fiancé and I danced to it at his cousin's wedding and he sang it to me and made me cry. That's the first time he's ever sang me a song :love7:

Then we danced to it at my friend's wedding and he sang it and made me cry.

Now we are going to dance to it at our wedding for our first dance. And I will cry. lol

A lot of songs have associations for me - good and bad. Some just bring up random memories. Music provokes lots of feelings and memories for me. Way too many to name.

I don't have one but this is my boyfriend's song for us - "Make Me Better". And video. Not something I would have picked but it's cute. He just recently mentioned it to me but it's been "our song" in his mind for a long time.

I was around 19 when YBTM became 'our song'. We were broken up at the time but he asked if I wanted to go watch a movie. The song came on, we looked at each other and that was that. Back together and we finally had a song which was a relief to me because I used to name songs and he'd say... Nope! No! Nope! That's not it.

Six, I am the same way. A song will come on and take me back to an exact moment in time. There are few I really can not stand to listen to. It has to remind me of absolutely miserable times that I can't stand to re visit, and I am one who does not mind to open up old wounds via song. I'll let it bleed. No trigger warnings needed in my world.

ETA: I have to love that song. It's a requirement and quite nice because I always felt there is a disproportionate number of songs about green eyes compared to brown and blue.

I'd like to meet someone who has a really messed up song like I hate you!!! Or Rootless Tree by Damien Rice. And this leans on me just like a rootless... Eff you, eff you, eff you and all we've been thru I said leave it, leave it, leave it cause it's nothing to you amd if you hate me, hate me, hate me just hate me so good that you could let me out, let me out, let me out of this hell when you're around.

That actually reminds of a past relationship moment and is a great song but not exactly a romantic interlude.

I do love how people can interpret songs different ways. I like reading the comments on that one. Some see the first line as a metaphor for an old and comfortable relationship. To me, it was not being able to go/leave him alone. Not unless I took my shoes off for a bit, which makes the photo on the album cover brilliant. She's barefoot with muddy feet. My favorite part of the song is ... I'm trying not to move it's just your ghost passing thru. Again, some see that as an old relationship you can't move on from. To me it was a reference to the person I knew and loved disappearing before my eyes. Going, losing himself, changing due to addiction but I would still catch glimpses of him. Le Sigh. There was not a bad song on this.

He also says that Avenged Sevenfold's "Dear God" reminds him of me.

Pretty much every love song reminds me of him, so picking just one would be hard.

Back in high school we said that Andy Griggs' "And She Thinks She Needs Me" was our song.

We've had so many throughout the years. I'm sure we'll have many more!

We had a Beauty and the Beast themed wedding with hand-painted centerpieces of other Disney couples. We walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of Beauty and the Beast.

I can only think of 2 boyfriends I had 'songs' with. One was Roundabout by Yes. The other was Radar Love by Golden Earring.

The first song I remember hearing on the radio, loving, and screaming for my mom to turn up (like the car stereo in a 1970 something boat of a Pontiac was going to break the windows. Wild Card/Side Track. I had a lot of fun asking people what their first 45 was on Facebook one day. I still remember mine. It was my first non kiddy-free to be you and me- music of my very own and I got it for my birthday. I kept playing it for people at my party. ^ Aww. I liked that song. It was incredibly popular when I decided my first love & I needed a song. It came on the radio one night as his brother was driving us around while we made out in the back of the mini van. It's the first one I asked about but that wasn't it.

I don't know how I remember this stuff sometimes. 23 years ago.

I wouldn't say it's officially "our song", but The Joker by Steve Miller Band was playing the first time I met my boyfriend. I'd picked it out on the jukebox earlier that night and he started talking to me about it while his friend was sort of unsuccessfully hitting on me.

I had a rather sweet moment last night and thought of this thread. It was about 2am and I was snuggled up on the couch with my first love. He got on his phone for a moment, turned it up as loud as it would go and played our song. It was the Bob Dylan version of You Belong to me, which was the version we heard together the first time (20 years ago). Moments like that make you realize why finding & having "a song" seems so important when you are young & (not so) goofy.
