Wonky Part - how to get the top of my head to look nice?

Hiya!

I have 2c hair that I just recently started doing squish to condish and CG (mostly) method. I've been using VO5 to co-wash and as leave-in and then using Miss Jessie's Jelly Soft Curls (this has cones...but I bought it before CG and I'm going to get my moneys worth, damn it!) and diffusing. The change is drastic!

I am, however, having some issues with my side part. I typically just sort of flop my hair around after plopping for a few minutes and get a general area for a part. I obviously don't want to run a comb through it. However, my hair has been drying so oddly on the top that it doesn't look very nice. Some curls are squished to certain sides and showing scalp, especially in the back. I tried diffusing upside down and my hair got weirdly flat on the top. Any tips?

I'd love to show pictures...but I am new and it won't let me.

Also, bonus question - I need to find a CG friendly styler after I run out of my Jelly soft curls! Any recommendations that are similar?

Thank you for your help!

    Hi Quincy,

I have had a similar issue with my hair. I haven't found a way to correct it without some manipulation of the hair. I am a 2a/b so the more I do to it the less wave I have. However the wonky bits I had on the crown looked so odd that I had to do something. It looked like I had bald patches!
I found that finger combing upside down after adding my leave in helps me. After doing this when I flip my head up the wonky bits have sorted themselves out.
    Hope this helps!

Clip it into the shape you want to dry in. You really can do that. You can lift individual clumps and clip them until you have the general shape you would like and then leave them in for quite a while, til almost dry at least. Do you finger comb mostly at the crown?

I finger comb through all my hair upside down. Then scrunch in whatever styling product I am using. I get loads of wonky bits when I clip.
There is a lot of trial and error in this. What works for one or some may not work for you.
I've gotten lots of good suggestions from members here. I try them, some work for me....some don't.
I find that the tips that work best for me are from members with similar hair properties to mine.
