Ur Favorite Detangling Tool is.......?

adthomasadthomas Registered Users Posts: 5,525 Curl Neophyte
I have a drawer full of detangling tools. I have Denman, Tangle teaser, wide tooth, Oidad comb, detangling comb, picks and other combs. However I want to say I have fallen in love with my paddle brush. I have one by Revlon. What I like is not only does it detangle well but I noticed my hair doesn't retangle as easily as after using my wide tooth. I have tight curls and I was surprised how well apaddle brush works for me.

I'm curious what others are using. And yes fingers count.
Yes, it's real. No, you can't touch it. :wav:

    My fingers.

I own a modified Denman-like brush, Hoop-La Paddle brush (haven't used it on natural hair yet...afraid of the little balls at the ends doing something evil to my fine hair), Wide toothed comb, and Revlon Afro pick (3-pc set).

My hair is never fully detangled mostly because any tool other than my gentle, gentle, GENTLE fingers rips my hair out. I don't care sometimes, so I do use them occasionally. I am sure my hair would be about 2 inches longer if I gave them up entirely, but eh...

Seeing so many people with type 4 hair using paddle brushes makes me want to try mine, but...my hair isn't long enough, I think. With just 8 inches, the length of my hair is almost as wide as the brush itself, lol.

My fingers. That is what I use 99% of the time but when I feel like I need something extra I reach for a large wide tooth comb. Years ago I had an amazing wooden paddle brush. I can't even remember where I got it but it was the only brush I could run through my dry hair and not have a problem with. My friends Ferret stole it and hid it somewhere. She had a stash of brushes we could not find. I've had some pretty good paddle brushes since but nothing like that one.

I've tried the tangle teezer, a wide tooth comb and my fingers, and I just keep going back to the comb. When I attempted finger detangling, even with conditioner I just felt like my hairs were getting stuck around my fingers and just getting pulled out a lot easier. Combing wet conditioned hair seems to be the quickest way for me to do it.

Denman brush has been amazing for me. I don't only use it to detangle, but to distribute products and style as well. I noticed that when I started using it the way I do it, I have less frizz and better clumping and definition. If I just use my fingers, my hair will really look unruly and the frizz is just unbearable.

I bust out laughing at this. Of all the unlikely things to happen to a hair tool! I cannot imagine, haha. It's always the one tool that gets away *sigh*

My Denman is modified too. I have the Revlon Signature Series paddle brush. It's square and I'm pretty sure I got it at Walgreens. I actually ran my denman through my hair top to bottom after using my paddle and it glided through like butta. I have been reading reviews and it is very popular with thick curlies which I didn't know when I bought it.

Is your Revlon paddle missing any of the balls on the ends of the bristles? I think mine is missing one ball, so I'm scared.

I used to buy every product that someone mentioned or raved bout but over time I found that the very things I already had worked just as well if not better, for a lot les money over time...

So, these days, I try to keep it simple when detangling or cleansing.
    Water spray (Lots of water)...
    Some Finger Rubbing...
    Wide Tooth Comb...

Also, I find that if hair is very dry/crunchy for some reason, saturating hair with warm water and (Suave BioBasics) conditioner will definitely do the trick!
'Poo: Aubrey Organics or Suave Clarifying
or Liquid African Black Soap (only 4-ingredients ; awesome!)
Co-Wash: Aubrey Organics or Suave Condish
Condish: Aubrey Organics or Onion Mask or Yogurt
DT: Honey + Olive Oil + AO Condish or Yogurt mix

So I tried the paddle brush last night during my "deep detangling" session. I think I'm sold. It's actually better than the Denman-like brush (wishing I didn't buy that now)....am realizing I may have been a product/tool junkie...:angel5:
