Haircut for 2b/2c ideas?

My hair turned curly a few years ago, but it's half curly half straight. I have curly hair above and straight hair underneath the curly. To add more curl, I had my hair cut short (around my jaw line) but it remained straight/wavy until my layers grew to my shoulders. The longer it gets, the more curly, it seems.
I'm not concerned about frizziness. Vidal Sassoon'd mousse works great for that, but I am not sure how I should cut my hair next? Or any hairstyle ideas? I don't have any picture at the moment.

From what I can see your hair looks similar to my pattern. I got a great cut from a very curly stylist. She swore blind she could do scissor texturizing without making it weird or stick/flip out and she did! but that was a leap of faith on my part. Frankly I'd try to find a curly specialist if you can. It could be just talking to someone about what you want your hair to do as opposed to bringing a "style" picture. For me, I told her I want to keep length, optimize wave and maybe get some crown lift. She seemed to know what to do to achieve those things. (I really like your hair in the pic. You say it is before being cut. How much was cut?). My favorite products are Camille Rose products and VolumeMega Max from Sally's. Ouidad PlayCurl Foam has turned out to be a GREAT "mousse" product for me.

Are any of these salons near you? http://www.scottmusgravehair.com/scott-musgrave-blog/curly-hair-artistry-global-stylist-listing/

Also check the salon finder here and on the Deva site.

I have straighter hairs at the nape of my neck as well (they get cut at least 1-2" shorter than the rest of my hair, otherwise they stick out below the curlier parts). The longer my hair gets in the back (2c) the curlier it gets. The sides are more 2b and my bangs area are the only place I get true root curl (those pieces border on 3a). I grew out my bangs when I went CG a couple of years ago, and while I miss them they weren't the best thing for my overall mixed patterns. Plus, my hubby likes them longer :love4:

I have about shoulder length hair, and it is shorter on the front/sides and longer in the back - kind of a sweeping toward the back kind of thing. My stylist, who is Aveda trained, cuts my layers based on how the hair grows out of my head - and she does an amazing job handling the different textures and layers. So while I still toy with the idea of a curly cut, you can get a good wet cut with the right stylist.

If you see wavies and curlies in your area, ask around to see where they get their hair cut. Get a consultation, and never do anything drastic on the first cut with her/him - go slowly to see if it works out well. Don't hesitate to ask to get something fixed after a less than stellar cut, especially if you've shelled out some dough (even my local Great Clips gives you a week to come back to fix a problem). Don't hesitate to jump ship to another stylist if you're unhappy with your current stylist (I stuck with one for 2 haircuts too long, I am unhappily loyal like that haha).

I think that finding the optimal length for a particular curl pattern takes time and some patience, especially for mixed curl patterns.

Take some time to browse images online of haircuts you are interested in. I keep a page full of clipped images of hairstyles I like. Not all of them work with every curl pattern (I prefer shorter styles but my hair doesn't start really curling until longer... sigh). I have hit the happy medium with shoulder length hair. I know that for me I hate how it looks when it is longer on the sides than in the back - it isn't flattering to my face. But it is a popular style!

I love the cut in your avatar! I think it looks great on you. I wish I could rock bangs like those.
Smorgasbord of finer, porous 2a-3a; straight underlayer

    :thumbleft: collagen
 humectants outside of optimal dews, PVP, oils/butters, anything remotely comedogenic

poos: Giovanni TTT, WF365FF, Suave Clarifying
    condishes: VO5 VMT, KLS; IonEC
stylers: FSG, 4NSBCC, VolumaxMega, AIF, GFPC

Mod CG since 11/2012. My waves occasionally look best when combed out, so you can pry my combs from my cold, dead hands :laughing6:
