How Do You Detangle Highly Porous Hair?

My hair is very porous to the point where it loses elasticity due to all the water it absorbs. I only wash my hair once per week. I haven't been retaining length and I've since changed my routine around. My only guess is that it's stemming from my wash days. I have tried detangling my hair wet with the oil rinse method (Oil followed by conditioner) and while it leaves my hair moisturized, my hair just snaps, crackles and pops. I'm also very heavy handed with the oils and conditioner so my hair will be drenched in product. I'm thinking about trying dry detangling. I know that is a curly hair sin to detangle while dry but wet detangling is a no-no. How do you guys detangle your high porosity hair on wash day?
P.S: I finger detangle in sections with oil and apply it to my scalp before every shampoo session but I find that finger detangling doesn't do a thorough job. I just purchased a tangle teezer (the original one) and I just modified my Denman brush by removing every other row of teeth. I have 3C type curls if that helps.

Have you tried placing a detangling conditioner on unwashed hair? I've found that when I detangle on hair dry first, then the wet detangling is a breeze.
