Hi! New Salt & Pepper Curly Girl in NoVA

Hi all! I have been lurking for a few weeks. This forum is amazing! I have learned much here about how to handle my curly hair. I have also read the Curly Girl Handbook and Live Curly, Live Free. And of course I have been all over YouTube! What great resources! I had no idea that I was starving my hair of moisture.

I have avoided blow dryers most of my life but never realized how much damage some of the products I was using were doing. I cut my long curls off about 10 years ago because I was tired of the straw and frizz! I've reached a point where I want more softness around my face so I am growing my hair out again. I think a shoulder length shaggy bob is what I am after. My bangs are still a question for me. I've always had them as I have a low forehead. I also avoid a part in my hair.

My hair is THICK. I believe I have normal porosity and medium texture but I may be all wrong. I think my type is 2C/3A. From my readings and viewing I realize my porosity and texture are more important than my type when picking my care options. That and the wonderful information on dew point. Who would have ever known! I knew I hated January hair but I didn't know what to do about it!

I had a consultation appointment with a Devachan trained stylist as well. She sent me away for a few months as I am growing out a pixie and I need more length. She typed my curls as Botticelli. Her name is Megan and she is at By Shear Design in Burke, Va. I am looking forward to my first real appointment with her. Not sure when that will be yet. I guess it depends on how fast my hair grows and how well I am handling the stages. I am prepared as best as I can be to get through the stages of this grow-out!

Oh.. one more thing.. a very important thing.. I LOVE my silver!!!

Thank you one and all! What a great place to hang out!

Welcome:D! I certainly hope that all goes well with your growing out your hair. It's truly great to know that you are loving your silver hair, that's continuing to grow in. As long as you are accepting of your natural hair, then that's what really matters the most. Also, when you do go to see Megan again (the hair stylist mentioned), I do hope that she does an excellent job with your hair. And, that you are very happy with the finished results.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcome Reservechic! I am very thankful for this forum. It has been such a help.. I can't even begin to describe how helpful it has been. I wouldn't have gotten this far without it. My goal to grow out my length started several months ago but the bigness of my hair had me running to a stylist to chop some off every 3-4 weeks. Now it's been 2 months since a haircut and I am thrilled with how my hair is behaving!
