3a/3b Product Help - Semi Newbie

Hello all,

3a on top, mostly front and sides and 3b underneath and the back of my hair. For a few months now I've attempted the curly girl method and my hair was nicer - less frizz more definition, but now it's just meh.

Products I am using/have used (please excuse if I get terms wrong lol):
Wash - Loreal Eversleek shampoo (Still using)
Co-wash - Suave coconut conditioner
Co-wash - Suave apple something or other (Using instead of the coconut one)
Condition - Tresemme Naturals (stopped using because I thought it might be breaking me out)
Gel - Devacurl (Still using)
Gel - Herbal Essence Set Me Up
Gel - Herbal Essence Totally Twisted (Still using)


Issues:
I really really really do not like the herbal essence gels - too drying.
Hair has become dry and frizzy again (maybe I need to go back to the tresemme conditioner?). Also my scalp is fairly itchy and my hair comes out in clumps!
I know not a thing about leave -ins or mousse (I've always felt gel worked better for my hair - should I mix?)

Anyhow, I would greatly appreciate any recommendations for soft frizz free curls!!
* in the $5-$10 price range please - just moved into my first apt., so I'm broke haha!

Are you using leave in? If you like how the gels work, you may be able to mitigate the drying with some (or more) leave in. I use LA Looks and it can be a bit drying, but fine with the right amount of leave in. I also get better definition and less frizz. I use either Tropical Coconut or Everlasting Sunshine, which is a little thicker and more moisturizing.

Leave-In would help this. In addition to leave-in, try only rinsing out 80% of your regular in-shower rinse-out conditioner. This will help keep some moisture too. If you're looking to try a non-drying gel, the Aussie Aussome Volume one is fantastic - not drying, doesn't flake, and only costs a few dollars.
