Hello everyone,

My name is Stephen, it's nice to finally make an account here. I've been browsing and reading articles on this website for quite a while now and learned a lot! so thank you all for that. I figured I'd make an account to just to find out specific things I haven't really figured out and found much help from browsing, cause everyones hair is somewhat different. I've attached photos so you can see what it looks like on a good day (don't laugh at me trying to look model-y haha).

A little history about my hair, I've been growing it for around 3 years almost now and when it started to touch my shoulders I had the "brilliant" idea of not using anyyy product on my hair, literally just walk in, wet my hair and painfully unknot it with nothing but water, which obviously led to lots of breakage and uneven growth, it actually didn't look bad still but my hair just stopped growing for some reason and I figured it was just because I messed up the ends completely. Surprisingly it didn't look that bad, the picture of me staring into space is what it was like when I used no product at all for months. So I figured I'd get it trimmed so it would grow out more than what it was in like picture and I did and started taking better care of my hair from the knowledge I learned here and from Ouidad's YouTube channel. I tie my hair up in a "Pineapple" when I sleep and have a little morning routine to get some moisture in there, but for some reason it's stuck again so I'm going to get another trim tomorrow (I trimmed it last around a month or two ago) and I hope I can learn some more things, more specific things to better manage my hair and be "in control" cause we all know curly hair has a mind of it own sometimes.

A few things I want to learn is how to stop my hair from tangling soo easily, I can almost never run my fingers through my hair. How to make it grow more (unless this is as far as I can naturally go), how to stop my hair from being very stuck together, sometimes it just like an afro and bunched up, I wish my curls were more separated and free. Every now and again the hair on the back of my head tends to curl up more than the front and just looks pretty stupid and also overall my hair shrinks up and doesn't look consistent with the length it actually is, I want figure out how to stop that anddd, this list is long I apologize haha. Lastly some specific products you guys would recommend to sort these issues,I honestly hardly use any product. Just some Dove conditioner and shampoo, which for sure isn't ideal.

I'm glad if you took the time to read all that, I hope it's not too much for this thread or something and I appreciate any help you guys can give me. Nice to meet you all. :)

Stephen

    Hi Stephen,

To be honest, I think your hair looks fantastic. I think that reading tips from others here with Type 3 curls will best assist you. The tangling at the nape is something I get also, and I don't have nearly as much curl as you do. But using a heavier conditioner, and perhaps a leave in, may help with smoothing and tangling.

As for products, I've had good luck with Ouidad, with which you're familiar from the videos you cited. If you have access to some trial sizes, that could be a good way to begin experimenting with products.

Also you may have some luck with sealing. Using a light oil like Argan, grape seed, or jojoba (though that on can be tricky) to seal on a leave in conditioner has helped many people I know with developing less tangles. You don't use a ton. Start out with a few drops rubbed between you hands and then over your curls. You can follow with a gel or cream then if desired. Your hair is just beautiful.

Ps. I cannot recommend Camille Rose products enough. Something like their coconut leave in or the whipped aloe butter gel alone might be enough for you.

    Hi stephen!

Not sure if you're still looking for some tips sinds this post is from last month, but in case you are here are some :)
I have 3b hair myself and wow yours look great btw! I would definitely reccomend you to stop using the dove products. I'm not sure how far you would like to go but going natural and using the curly girl (in this case man haha) method is something you might want to check out. I wanted to post a link but it's not allowed yet, google on 'curly girl method', the wikihow link has great info but there are many other sites ofcourse.
I'm not sure in which country you live but some products that work for me are: Yes to carrots pampering conditioner, which I use to cowash ( )
Cantu curl activator as a leave in conditioner
Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie which I apply after the leave in
I follow up with a gel from Ecostyler (krystal) or I use the shea moisture curling souffle.
About wanting your curls to be separate, using a wide tooth comb really helps. Only use it in the shower while your hair has plenty conditioner in it. Start detangling at the bottom of your hair and gently work your way up.
Hope this helps! Greets from another curly :hello2:
