DT makes my hair dry and frizzy

Hello. So I've tried CJ curl rehab, Eden jojoba deep conditioner, and as I am DT. They all leave my hair very very dry and extremely frizzy. Idk why DT have never worked for me. Any suggestions?

I usually apply and cover with a shower cap while finishing my shower (15 mins). I've also tried applying and covering with shower cap and wrapping a hot towel around my head. I was thinking maybe I'm getting over conditioned so I tried a little protein and nothing changed. My hair is normally dry and frizzy for about 3 days after a DT.

Look at the ingredients and see if there are any common ingredients that pop up in all three. Maybe there's a specific ingredient that doesn't work with your hair

I haven't tried CJCR. I did try Eden's DT and found it was better as a cowash, before I found out that the little speck of chamomile in it did bug my allergies. AIA Hydration Elation though... I liked it at first but now I find it can OC me pretty much in almost one use now!

I see you have lopo hair, perhaps it's just too many oils for you? I dont' know about the CJ DT but I do know that the Eden and AIA DT are kinda hefty on the oils.
Very fine, high porosity, currently dyed and growing out the relaxed portions. I'm pretty sure my hair's 3b something IIRC. We will be finding out for sure as time goes by.

What are you hoping to achieve? Intensive conditioning (esp. softness) or deep penetration of specific ingredients? Sometimes people seem to do deep treatments/ intensive conditioning just for the sake of it, it really should be targeted.

Low porosity hair doesn't easily take up penetrating ingredients, and if you are over conditioned you don't need an intensive conditioner. You may find the right leave in conditioner gives your hair everything it needs, no need for heavy/ greasy treatments. No oil or butter is going to penetrate wet hair in just 15 minutes, it will merely coat the surface if not cleansed away.

Agree with the others. Your hair probably doesn't need it. Is it dry and frizzy? Or, does it look dry and frizzy, but actually feels soft??

I have fine/low porosity hair. When I first joined nc.com, I thought I had to DT. I don't. Haven't done it in 6+ years. I just don't need to do it. I do, however, use minute amounts of richer products, it's more then enough moisture for me.

Instead of looks dry do you mean looks dull/ lacking in shine? If so that along with not curling suggests build up of butters or waxes to me.

Hmm which my DT is full of waxes and butters. My hair has problems with that sort of stuff especially esters.

Another question, it says in your signature that your hair is low porosity and colored. Do you only use a semi-permanent hair dye?

I know I know. I have colored hair so my hair can't be low porosity. But my hair sure acts like it. My hairdresser says she has to fight to get my hair to take the color in.

Oh, I see. Have you ever thought about getting a hair analysis just to be sure? Goosefootprints (via Etsy) offers a very reasonable service if you're interested. She is very detailed and would be able to advise you which ingredients are beneficial and which ones wouldn't do so well in your hair.

Even if your virgin roots are low porosity that doesn't mean your ends are, depends how much damage has occurred to them in the intervening months or years.
