Hi! Is your baby tender headed by any chance? If not, when you comb her hair put on a favorite cartoon show to distract her. She has to get used to you doing her hair, because the longer it gets the more attention it will need. Since she is 1 you don't really need to do much with it. I would spritz with water and use the kinky curly knot today in her hair as a styler. When my daughter was 1, I used a child size satin bonnet on her hair at night to keep moisture in. Also if you use rubber bands, don't tie them tightly. Don't put to much tension on her scalp... And when u take them out clip them with a finger nail clipper, never pull them out or attempt to untie them because they will get stuck and pull out her hair.

At one year old, a little will go a long way with your daughter's hair. When you are washing her hair, apply an ample amount of a mild conditioner like Shea Moisture's Kids Mango & Carrot Conditioner and let it sit in her hair.

Then, after about 5-10 minutes, try to separate the strands of her hair with your fingers (i.e. finger detangle). You can also use a wide tooth come to try to gently work out those tangles. After rinsing out the conditioner, apply about a quarter sized amount of coconut or jojoba oil to her hair making sure to massage it into her scalp.

Next, you can add shea butter or any other butter based cream to her hair to seal in the moisture. You can then brush her hair into two very loose ponytails using Goody cloth covered ponytail holders or elastic rubber bands that have been dipped in either olive oil or coconut oil.

You also should be protecting her hair at night either with at satin bonnet or a satin pillowcase. Both are available at www . naturalhairshop . com

    She is adorable!!

When my cousin's baby was that little she used to 1. make liquid black soap from Natural-Cosmetics' Raw Handmade African Black Soap (2parts water + 1part soap crumbles--diced with butcher knife)... for everything from bathing to shampooing for her little one, and it has only 4-5 ingredients total, so you are not getting a lot of the harmful extras that most baby cleansing/shampooing products contain!

And 2. As a head to toe leave-in she used to layer pure edible aloe vera gel +/under pure unrefined coconut oil (for hair AND skin)

And 3. She would also periodically make a rich whipped butter blend using pure shea butter and cocoa butter and avocado butter to use as a soft styler...

She would basically style her hair in 2-strand-twists which would last about 8-10 days and have her sleep with a small satin sleep bonnet (and used a silk-satin scarf when she was a little older) and this simple regimen helped her hair grow really really long and healthy.
'Poo: Aubrey Organics or Suave Clarifying
or Liquid African Black Soap (only 4-ingredients ; awesome!)
Co-Wash: Aubrey Organics or Suave Condish
Condish: Aubrey Organics or Onion Mask or Yogurt
DT: Honey + Olive Oil + AO Condish or Yogurt mix
    ---
Best Gel Combo, Ever!: Elasta Qp Feels Like Silk Liquid Gel +/under Eco Styler [Krystal, Brown] Gel (or under Wetline Extreme Styling Gel)- awesome!!

My daughters hair is really dry too. I put things in it and it just disappears. I found that trying to keep it tied up all the time and maybe a braid ponytail thing, the moisture lasts longer, so if you're not already maybe you could try that. How is it after its freshly washed? If it's less dry then maybe you can just sometimes wet it and put a leave in conditioner or something.
