Question about heat protectant

When exactly do you apply heat protectant? It contains water and I have always read that before using a flat iron your hair must be completely dry. Do you apply it in advance or does the small amount of water in it not matter?

I hope this isn't a dumb question and would really appreciate some input. I don't intend to flat iron often but it was done once in a salon and I really loved the look (not that I don't love the curls but it was just a strikingly different look).

Thanks for any suggestions!

I would think you'd put it on over any other styling products, after they've dried, then let it dry before using the flat iron.

Thanks, Morgan. That sounds like it's probably the best way.

I put mine on right out of the shower because I blow dry my hair before I straighten and there's heat involved in that, too.

    2c/3a, fine, low porosity.

Poo: Garnier Fructis Pure Clean (yes, it has A Sulfate!!, but I have Teflon hair)
Co-wash (when I feel so inclined, which isn't often!): VO5 Kiwi Lime Clarifying Conditioner
    Conditioner/LI:
same for both -- whatever I have in the shower at the time (I experiment a lot)
    Style: EcoStyler Olive Oil <3
Dry: Diffuse or air dry, or both...depends on my mood

When I used to straighten my hair, there were a couple of things I used. I'd put a heat protectant on my wet hair (one that says to put on wet hair – these were normally sprays). Then once my hair dried, I'd also put another heat protectant on (one that specified to put on dry hair – these were normally creams / serum-type protectants). Leave that to absorb and then get straightening.
