Defining Curls

Hi, I've been CG for about 2 months. I have loved the change that I've noticed in my hair but the one thing that I'm struggling with currently is trying to get more definition. I'm pretty sure my hair is protein sensitive. Some things that it loves are aloe vera, shampoo bars and coconut oil. Currently I've been using a leave in conditioner, some aloe vera (the all natural kind), and devacurl light defining gel. This gives nice hair but I find that the curls are a bit more loose than I'd like and I know from experience my hair can be a lot curlier which is what I want. My only issue is my hair is super fine and can be weighted down pretty easily. Does anyone have any ideas for products that will help me achieve better definition? Curl creams, custards or whatever?

    You mention your hair likes aloe. Have you ever tried kinky curly curling custard? It's aloe based and doesn't contain protein, and gives me great definition when I use it under my gel. Alternately, flax seed gel is great for definition. You can make it yourself, and add some aloe if you like, or there are Etsy sellers who will make it for you if you don't want the fuss.

    I was going to say try making some flax seed gel. I recently made my first batch and had great results, I mixed mine with some Agave syrup for extra hold, left to air dry and then SOTC. I had defined waves all day/night and 2nd day hair too!! :toothy8:

    Lol. Guess I'll add to the confusion. I can't get KCCC to do anything for me and it makes my hair limp and stringy. I haven't tried flax seed gel yet. Several things seem to amp up my curl but they are kind of random. I get really good definition after I do an overnight Ccoconut oil DT. And salt spray products really help too (but can be drying for some). AG Recoil and some of the beach wave sprays work well for me and I don't have drying if I use a light LI over them. Rinsing my hair upside down makes it curlier and more defined. So does plopping and diffusing. I guess it's good to have options. Each method works alone or in combination with the others for me. I can't figure out the protein thing. My hair is colored and highlighted so it should love it but it doesn't seem to like much. I limit it to a occasional RO condish and that seems to be plenty.
    2b/2c ( weather permitting - 3a), fine texture but lots of it, colored and highlights, BSL.

    I have tried flaxseed gel and I do like it, but I found it just ok for really defining my hair. I was actually looking at KCCC but I was just worried it might be too heavy since most reviews I've seen were from 3c to 4's?

    I think hair properties likely matter more than curl pattern in this case. That being said, a lot of wavies do use it successfully. Your hair being fine, you may want to look for the opinions of those with fine hair.

    I believe good curl definition depends on: 1) curls that have been trimmed regularly, how "regularly" depends on how fast the hair grows and its condition, healthy hair that doesn't grow too fast could go up to even 6 mo. without needing a trim. 2) good elasticity, and 3) good level of moisture. 4) Not overdoing the oils, using too much can cause hairs to repel each other and not clump. During the summer less oil is needed by most people. So check and see if your hair meets these conditions.

    All protein in hair products does not act the same and some people's hair may prefer one kind but hate another or just not get any benefit from it, so it's good to try different ones before deciding it's not for you (unless your hair is in very good health).
