shea moisture tahitian noni & monoi

Hi,
its been about 4 yrs since I posted im surprised I remembered my log in details!

Anyway, I have a query about this product and wondered if anyone can help. I'm reading a lot of mixed things about this new range, one place says it's a straightening line but on the actual sm site they state " Reduces frizz, smoothes and adds curl definition to thick, curly hair. Helps restore moisture, body and shine for healthy, bouncy curls"
I have ordered the conditioner and am currently waiting for it to arrive so I can't give my personal opinion yet, but wondered where the straightening part comes from if the company them selves state " gives curl definition"

most of the youtube reviews I've watched, the people loved it but the written ones not so much, just wondered if anyone here has any experience with it.
thanks in advance

well the conditioner arrived today so I will try it out tomorrow and will come back and post what I think.
so far I can see it's a lot thinner than the other conditioners I have tried ( coconut and hibiscus and the shea butter one)
the smell is quite highly perfumed but hopefully not too offensive

I haven't used it, but under Featured Ingredients on SheaMoisture's product page about it, I saw this: "Botanical Extracts - Heat activated enzymes strengthen and protect hair during heat styling." That may or may not be marketing hype.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Keratin, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Inulin, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot), Gardenia Tahitensis Flower Extract, Behenyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Fragrance (Parfum), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) See Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Trametes Versicolor Extract, Trifolium Pratense (Clover) Flower Extract

As far as the first 5 ingredients go, there's a fatty alcohol (Cetearyl Alcohol), a protein (Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Keratin), another conditioning agent (Behentrimonium Chloride), Coconut Oil, and Inulin (a polysaccharide, which functions as a conditioning agent /humectant). The protein and coconut oil should be beneficial for those with fine textured or damaged hair, as coconut oil enhances the hair's ability to retain protein. Both coconut oil and the 6th ingredient, olive oil, are penetrating oils, although in a rinse out application like this, there isn't time for them to really absorb. So in this formula, the two oils are acting to increase slip and smooth the hair. There is some shea butter, which could weigh hair down and/or build up if only cowashing, but it's fairly far down in the ingredients list, so not much of it in the product, unlike their Moisture Retention and Curl and Shine lines.

The first few sort of remind me of Renpure's Brazilian Keratin Straightening conditioner that used to be well-liked here. It had hydrolyzed keratin and coconut oil, but the line was targeted at people who flat ironed their hair. People were worried about it loosening their curls because of the "straightening" in the name, but posters here found it did the opposite and actually enhanced their curl pattern. I wouldn't be afraid to try this, especially since it looks a bit lighter than SheaMoisture's other conditioners.

I would definitely like to hear more feedback about this new line as well. As i am planning on making a major haul with them next Tuesday, and i was undecided about trying these new products. As, i don't plan on flatironing, my anytime soon. Matter of fact, i really hardly ever flatiron my hair at all anymore. So i do not want to end up buying products from this line, if it is designed to work best for use when straightening out one's hair.

And, if they are designed to work on both curly and straight hair, i would love to know if these products provide any type of loosening effect to ones curls. As i like my curls just the way they are.

I tried it when it first came out. On the bottles I had, it stated on the label that it "contains straightening ingredients". I personally hated the product, it made my curls a flat mess. Would not recommend. It does smell absolutely amazing though!

I think they've reformulated since it first came out. NC.com has the old ingredients list and bottle verbiage (I bolded everything in the old formula that has been eliminated in the new one)...

"Active straightening ingredients help smooth rough, uneven textures and control frizz. This rinse-out conditioner instantly hydrates and detangles, while fortifying and protecting hair. Certified organic Shea Butter, revitalizing Tahitian Noni and Monoi Oil, blended with Keratin, Peptides and Botanical Extracts hydrate and strengthen hair, while nourishing the scalp to help support healthy hair renewal. "

Old Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Keratin, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Inulin, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot), Gardenia Tahitensis Flower Extract, Behenyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Fragrance (Parfum), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) See Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Trametes Versicolor Extract, Trifolium Pratense (Clover) Flower Extract, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Hydolyzed Vegetable Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol, Cystine Bis-PG-Propyl Silanetriol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Panthenol, Polyglyceryl-3 Stearate, Morinda Citrifolia (Noni) Extract, Glyceryl Caprylate, Glyceryl Undecylenate, Guar Hydroxypropyltimonium Chloride, Stearyl Alcohol, Diheptyl Succinate, Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, Phytic Acid, Butylene Glycol, Dextran, Citric Acid Granular

New ingredients: Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Keratin, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Inulin, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot), Gardenia Tahitensis Flower Extract, Behenyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Fragrance (Parfum), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) See Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Trametes Versicolor Extract, Trifolium Pratense (Clover) Flower Extract

The two ingredients lists look substantially different, although the top 5 ingredients are identical.

I used it this morning and it does smell amazing, it's definitely a lot lighter than the other sm conditioners I have tried but I was a bit nervous as to how much to use considering my confusion on the straightening/enhancing part.
my fingers did slip through my hair very easily. I was checking to see how my hair was drying before work ( paranoid about it being loosened) but it seemed ok, just felt really moisturised.
so far I like it, but cant give a final verdict considering I have only used it once.

The thing is , with lines like this they're mainly available online in the UK and the few ground stockist I have been in they are kept behind the cashier till so you cant easily read the ingredients/ descriptions so I had to wait for it to arrive -( considering each site has their own description of it)

geek_chic thank you for your detailed input!

Yvw, and keep us posted, CurlyCaramel. I've eyeballed SheaMoisture's stuff more than once, but always passed on it because of the high amounts of shea butter and cetyl esters and the many people who say the formulas are all fairly heavy as opposed to rich. This one's tempting me though.

Thanks for sharing how these products worked for your hair. As, i really appreciate it. I may end up avoiding getting anything from the new line, when i make my order with Shea Moisture tommorrow.

Thanks for sharing your initial impressions. As it is good to know. Please keep us updated on how the product continues to work in your hair. As i live in an area thst always gets any new Shea Moisture products that come out at least a year after they have launched. Plus there are a variety of Shea Moisture products that they don't sell in my area at all. Which is why, i am glad that now you can order from their site. As, it is a big help for me.

I've used it about 3 times now and I really don't notice my hair getting any looser, which is a good thing for me as I'm always on the hunt for enhancing products not elongating or loosening.

I do find my hair feels a lot softer, I wouldn't say it's a favourite yet though. It may grow on me, when I first tried the coconut and hibiscus I didn't think it had enough slip for me but after using it again I think it's amazing - different bottle, different batch maybe?

Thanks for providing more feedback. As it is greatly appreciated.

I felt the same way about products in the Coconut and Hibiscus line too. When i first tried the Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Curl and Style Milk, i wasn't very impressed with either one. I didn't find the products to be all that moisturizing to my hair at first. And, i had actually stopped using them. But, then i decided to give the line another try, and through continued use my hair started to love the products, and i decided to try their Curl and Shine Shampoo and other products that they offered.

I do know that with all natural products that they can vary from batch to batch. Which is why, sometimes people may possibly get different results.

I did a review on these on YT, but I will also put some relevant thoughts here. I didn't notice my curls loosening at all with these. Notably, I didn't try any stylers, and I usually rinse my conditioner all the way out. I like the shampoo as usual. I have low-med porosity hair that doesn't like shea butter, which I have finally figure dout after trying so many shea M products. I think people with color treated or heat damaged hair, or just hair that loves protein, would like the treatment from this line. It didn't do much for my hair, but I could detangle with it.

The conditioner to me is pretty meh- I never seem to get any slip from Shea M conditioners. I like the oil glosser from this line; it does smell great and adds shine. :) It would be nice if I straightened my hair, but there's no way I'm doing that in the middle of the humid summer.

ALSO, I saw from Shea M's social that they are coming out with a whole new line in pink packaging. :)

I also found SM products don't quite work for me. So far, the products I am using from Camille Rose seem like the Aloe version of SM products and just are a dream. I'm hankering after their DT and maybe trying some of their coconut line. I am a true product Junkie but I think I may have found the products that work best. I am also really liking the Original Moxie Hold up with the CRN whipped aloe butter gel like crazy. I know someone who just had amazeballs ringlet results using CRN Curl Maker and the Hold up. She looks like a painting.
